What Is A "Fair Share" When It Comes To Taxes? Topic

So I said I read one article and was good on that topic, forever?

Do you think misrepresenting people's words in a crude and obvious way fools anyone?

I've read about the Tea Party in plenty of places (New Yorker, NYT, Guardian, Harper's, Atlantic, blogs, etc.).  But somehow to you, saying that one of the articles I read is better than anything cable news has to offer means that's the only thing I've ever read on the Tea Party.

You can do better than that, Mike.

It's fairly obvious that you don't pay attention.   TV brings the topic to one's attention.   You can then look more into the topic or ignore it.   15 seconds of evil TV is better than reading an article only to realize you just don't care about the topic.

You guys seem to think that you must choose TV or the printed word.  You don't.   One of my favorite segments at this time is The Five(on the hated FOX network).  Why?  Because they cover the day's topics and there are 5 people supposedly giving varied opinions.  After about 10 seconds on any topic, I can decide to keep listening, turn away or go find more information on said topic.   With a magazine or newspaper, it takes me 10 seconds to pick it up and open it up.   ONE PAGE.

Maybe I have more time because I don't have the need to feel all superior by saying "I don't watch TV news. It's rubbish" while choosing to spend hours looking at a dozen newspapers to find a topic I care about.

What does that have to do with taxes?

Perhaps you should read the last 5-10 pages, Mr.52%blog.

Mike: "TV brings the topic to one's attention."

Yes, that's the only way to find out about something, isn't it?  It's not as if major stories, like Bradley Manning's detention conditions, could ever be broken by a blogger like Glenn Greenwald.  It's not as if online papers like the NYT have headlines on their web sites that you can skim through (oh, but it takes 10 seconds -- too long for a guy who spends 8-10 hours a day posting on WIS!).  Nope, gotta watch Hannity and Ed Schultz and the crew to get the scoops!

Are you 75 years old or something?

I thought newspapers were the source for 75 year olds?   "I hate these dagnabbed contraptions like talking pictures on a box!!!"

Let's try this another way.     If the tube is on, you can do other things until something catches your attention.    If you're reading, well, you're reading.   In fact, the tube can be on while you read but, since you guys think the TV is evil, it's not on in your house while you're scanning the newspapers for info.

I can't help but notice that your defense of cable news is becoming less enthusiastic as this debate wears on.  Now it's "Watching The Five [whatever that is] saves me a few seconds finding out what's in the news, whereas those pompous arrogant elitists looking at online papers have to scan headlines for hours and hours to find something they're interested in."

If you care to read back, you'll find that I've never defended cable news.  I've just said it's a news source source and to say "I don't watch TV news while I smoke my European cigarettes because I'm a snobby bastard" is stupid.   It's a news source and it's not the final word unless you let it be.   Really, that's been my argument all along.

People bypass cable news because they think it's not worth it compared to other news sources. Can't you wrap your mind around that?  And is it really that hard to find your way to "big stories" without someone on Fox or MSNBC directing you to them?

Are there any local TV news broadcasts where you live -- the "Live at 5 Eyewitness Action News" crap -- that utterly suck?  If so, do you still watch them anyway, because to ignore them would be to "limit" yourself?  Or maybe you watch them because you don't want people to call you out as a European cigarette-smoking snob?

You forgot about the lattes; no wonder Mike dismisses you as uninformed. And you lack Mike's pithiness, wit and sophistication. "Pompous *******" has that certain je ne sais quoi that a mere "Euoprean cigarette-smoking snob" lacks.

That's the sort of hurtful, snide remark that will get you blocked by Mike. What is it with you people?!?!?! Don't you realize this is Mike's plafform to pass along self-improvement tips to the rest of us? Apologize or prepare for a photo funny!

The thing is, if all of us who have been blocked by Mike got together and started our own thread he would not know when we were talking about him.
8/23/2011 7:00 PM
Speaking about being blocked.....do you know that Mike has been blocked by more of us then swamp has? All those words of wisdom gone to waste!
