Overqualified as a 4th outfielder? Surprisingly good defensively with a left-handed power bat? Fine, we'll add Rusty Staub to our squad.
That's how I felt when I took Hal McRae (although he bats righty).
There are exactly 11 players in the 1970's with a season of 600 PA, who hit .330+ with .400+ OBP. Seven of these players were taken among the first 25 selections. Two more were taken by round 5. The final two players in this group were taken by me, one in round 17 (Ken Griffey Sr.) and round 21 (Hal McRae). And the main reason I waited so long on taking Griffey was because Rusty Staub was my fallback option. Hal McRae is my 4th OF but will get a number of starts when Reggie Smith (603 pa), Jim Hickman (613 pa) & Griffey (628 pa) needs to rest.
