On a lighter note, can anyone explain how Ben often seems to significantly outperform his pywins? Does that just mean he wins more of his close games? Or is it due to tanking games?

In all fairness, he's not superstitious, but he is a little stitious.

I guess I'm still technically alive, since relegation is based on final combined score, which includes playoff games...

I am a little superstitious with WIS. There's QLST of course, but also I know that when I let me emotions get the best of me and criticize the SIM - it's often followed by some "under-performance". So I try not to poke the sim bear. Like there's some admin sitting there watching the forums or chat who see's a wise crack and says "I'll show him!"

And a personal thank you to Rob for beating chewy game 82 to help me back into a 5th team in via tie-breakers. They don't deserve it.... but I'll take it.

oooooooooooooooooooof! If I had won that last game in world 4, I'd have all five teams in and have a ghost of a sliver of a miniscule chance of doing something in the playoffs. I started 1-9 with that squad and it came down to a three-way tie-breaker. Every one of my teams except one had drastic stretches like that, and the one that didn't is, well, in a world with a 72-win team. This has been one of the most frustrating Savages for me, and with everything else going on in my life, I'm not super interested in going back to the drawing board.

Unfortunate Savage. Glad to at least have one team in but really disappointing. Didn’t mind Bird and Wallace but I’m not a fan of PG13. This team just couldn’t score efficiently. For the most part my defense and fouls were solid. My biggest shock was that my turnovers were just average. I was really expecting that to carry some weight in the possession battle. Oh well. Good luck to all the competitive teams Looks like it should be close between at least 4 of y’all.

checking my last few Savages I'm 232, 235, 239, 223. Need to find a way to level up.

A couple of notes:
- every previous Savage winner has had a regular season final score (reg season wins + 5 team bonus + bye scores) of 251 or higher. That puts jcred, dh555, raggedclaws and robusk above the threshold
- raggedclaws had the second highest regular season score ever for someone that did not get the all five bonus
- I think raggedclaws has to be considered the favorite. I have a slightly higher score right now but iirc around game 35 or 40 he was in like 6th-ish place. I don't know if he had a losing cycle after that. Even when I had a monster 20 cycle run I never put any distance on him. Once he figured out his teams he was unstoppable in the second half. Also teams that finish the regular season above 290 have not had any more success winning than teams that finish above 270 (oddly enough teams in the 270-290 range are MORE successful)
- dBKC SHATTERED the regular season wins record. I don't think I have ever seen one team make up almost a full third of a squads total wins. He may be going fo' fo' fo'.
- ash, chewy, midge and sukow all got 4 in and are pretty close to the pack and with a good playoff run good definitely crash the podium. Midge had an unreal second half of the season. If anyone is going to break the 251 rule it is going to be Spencer... he is probably a lock for 1 'ship so just needs to get lucky with one of his other two teams.
- Thank god for amerk's new girlfriend. He was running away with this think until he started dating her.

My only real superstition is that I won't look for game results between 1:50-2pm (ET). At that point I would just walk away and come back once I knew all the games were simmed. Or go make a forum post like this. I don't like refreshing uncertainly.

Feeling good about my squads but anything can happen in Savage playoffs. Made a few changes to cut down fouls a little on my most egregious teams, so while I still finished with the second most I think I may have managed to cut down on outlier events, that's probably the biggest mid-season change I made.

If I can win two chips again like last year I'll be in a good spot, but that's always a tall task. It'd be fun if it came down to the finals in W1 or W3.
