I'm Brendan Shanahan of the National Hockey League's department of player safety. Last Tuesday night in North Hollywood, an incident occurred in the game between the Salisbury Striper Swipers and the Neurosis. At 7:08 of the 2nd period, Neurosis defenseman Nathaneal Lorimer delivered an illegal hit to Salisbury forward Ake Orosco. The video clearly shows that Lorimer finishes his check hard and with authority, and fails to minimize the check, despite the fact that he is clearly looking at Orosco in the numbers.
To summarize:
- Illegal check.
- No sudden moves immediately prior to or simultaneous to the check.
- Contact was not minimized.
- Repeat offender.
- Injury on the play.
The department of player safety has decided to suspend Nathaneal Lorimer for 8 games.
