I'm having trouble figuring out all the hate for this change myself.

10 worlds

7 are 1-a-days. Means you have 24 hours to do something (gameplan) that takes anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes...yeah your right with all this chit chatting on the CCs we wont have any time in an entire day to game plan, because it takes 3 hours to do so.

3 are 2-a-days. Oh no we only have 12 hours!?!?! What will we do? I dont know how to balance out 10 minutes of game planning and a half of a day.

The new abiliy to chit chat with other coache on the CCs is awesome, i love it. You can talk junk, say GG, GL or whatever you want.

You guys are all right... it is a GREAT change and I fully support it. But here's the dynamic... for people that only spend X amount of time on the site and enjoy the interaction like you guys mentioned (you're right!), this is going to give them away to COMMUNICATE MORE, while actually playing the game LESS. For instace, I spend 20min a day on WIS. I have 3 teams in 3 great conferences. I love the active coaches corners. Well, why spend money on 3 teams to be in 3 great conferences, when I can play in 1 or 2 and enjoy the CCs of all of the other conferences in my main world?

It's a time restraint thing and talking on all of the different CCs is going to taking away from the time spent actually coaching teams. Therefore, a decrease in Human coached teams. :-)

Two Predictions:

1. The number of FREEHD accounts will swell dramatically for the first season or two of the FSS service in each world, making it look like there is a surge of interest in HD.

2. The changes will actually result in a decrease of actively managed D3 teams, of somewhere between 10-20%, as long-term D3 coaches either move up to D2 or "retire" from HD.

I will be interested to see if the numbers bear this out.

I think option 2. Its to time consuming and people will drop there teams, although freehd will be back in a huge way for a little as well - its beyond needed in div III to have any chance at bringing in a good class.

What I would really like to know is how many DIII teams are actually paid for. There seem to be A LOT of 1 year ghost ships the past few seasons.
12/29/2008 11:06 AM
I don't think it's as bad as we believe, but I would suggest that 10%-20% of the human coached teams are "freehd."
12/29/2008 11:10 AM
Tracking % of Sim Teams="glass" half empty

Tracking % of Human Teams="glass" half full

Seems to me that tracking DII and DI makes the most sense unless one can filter out the one and done DIII teams. Freehd will certainly play a role in DIII, however it may have also played a role in season 17.

In season 17 there were 65.5% humans in DI and DII. In Season 34 there were 68.2% humans.

Looks like the # of humans have decreased slightly in DI and increased in DII. Since season 17, the net for DI and DII has been an increase in human coaches (which I guess is the same as saying a decrease in sim coaches).
12/29/2008 2:43 PM
also to consider: in my Wooden D-III conference, we have at least 3 coaches there now on FREEHD accounts who are guys who moved up on their original IDs and decided that they wanted to keep their teams going until a human picked them up.

This is a definite plus from FREEHD-- without it, these teams would have been to rot, and my conference would be a dead zone...

This particular world has shown no growth in 17 HD seasons. In fact, if you back out the increase from "freeHD" in DIII, the world has actually lost 57 humans in DII and DI.

DI hit it's peak in season #18 with only 108 SIMS (33%) but quickly dropped back in season #19 with 127 SIMS.

Even uglier is if you back out the Big 6 Conferences which are almost all humans. The remaining conferences have 138 SIMS out of 252 schools. That's 55% of the schools coached by a SIM.

HD is a great example of a poor business model with various practices over the past 17 seasons.

1) Introduce new policies / game changes which alienate long term customers. Either in the changes themselves or the communication/implementation of the change.

2) Have NO marketing program (other than freeHD) to bring in new customers.

3) Continue to increase the complexity of the game at DIII so that retention of new customers is at a bare minimum.
