Survivor III *** Votes Read! Topic

Gonna answer a couple of questions....

BastanRedsox – How much did you consult with the tribe before sending in a list of teams?
One of the interesting things about this team thusfar is how organized we have been. The challenge was posted, I came in an hour afterwards, and so much of the research has already been done.  I think in the first challenge, without the constraints of time allowing for home-field, we discussed almost EVERY little nuance. Maybe we were a little hyper-researchy (my own new word!) but it obviously showed up for us in the results.  Was choosing home field advantage so important that we might have not solicited for enough opinions?  I guess that's possible, but I thought, at the time, that we were riding a pretty solid wave of momentum -- and a TON of research was done.  I know for my money I played with a team I was comfortable with, but I can't and won't speak for anyone else.  That really might have been the only thing we could have done differently is that more input from who wanted to play with which teams -- but that is even a minor quibble.  What we're doing is working, really -- it just didn't show up in the results this go 'round.

tropicana – Neither tribe used Koufax’s best- or second-best season (judging them by whip, erc# or salary). Might that have been a mistake?

I think this precisely shows up in what knee said -- with having to choose the second pitcher it was really more important to have the best Drysdale season we could out there, and then a secondary Koufax season, because all of those were pretty good.  If you sacrificed your second starter, that could have been disaster. Besides, I actually really like using that '66 Koufax, he's a value pick I've used in leagues, so I certainly don't think you can say it's a bad idea.  I simmed several games against live opponents and simmy, and not only did I win every one, Koufax dominated in them all too. The only game I lost was the one that mattered, when Koufax got a little bit walk-y and that cost the game.

steveymer – 1908 Mathewson was the best SP used in this challenge (judging them by whip, erc# or salary). Did he completely shut your Dodgers down with the challenge on the line?

Thanks for giving me such an easy one! ... Yes. ... we did get a few guys in scoring position, but none of our whopping 3 hits came in those situations.  And it would have taken more than that to win, once Allen came in and promptly gave up 3 runs.

dolpinsfan – Do you think it helps you to have won your game in each of the first two tribal challenges? Or do wins and losses not matter much?

I think it's important that I won my game in each of the first two challenges because every win in a challenge is important. Especially when there's only 8 games going. I admit that I felt pretty good when we were up 4-1 because you like to think the odds are with you to get one of the three left. Didn't happen this time, but I'll gladly take a 4-1 advantage going into each challenge if you'll let us.

The votes are in! The person voted out will get one farewell post, and then is asked to not have any communication about the game with those still playing. As always, the votes will be read in an order from random.org. No votes will be read after one player has enough votes to be sent home.

After two tribes have battled it out in challenges that emphasized the coasts, Survivor moves to the three-division era and into America’s heartland. As baseball did in 1994 with its alignment, our two tribes will be split into three. To reset the tribes, I used the Live ranking for the 15 remaining players. The top-ranked Live player, The Taint, was assigned to the first tribe. #2-ranked toddleduc went to tribe 2, #3-ranked eman7400 to tribe 3, #4 steveymer to tribe 1, and so on.

Each tribe will pick a league and a season, and will use five Central Division teams with one tribe member using the same team in two games, once against each of the other two tribes, for a total of 10 games per tribe. The team with the worse real-life record will play at home in each game. You must use a different starting pitcher in each of your two games. For example, if Tribe 1 picks the 2008 AL, one player would use the Indians twice, one would use the Tigers twice, etc.

Each tribe’s captain will be the player with the lowest Live ranking. The captains will send me the year and league you want to use, and a list of which player will use which team. If more than one tribe selects the same year/league, the first to submit it gets that division and the other(s) will have to repick.

Two of the three tribes will send someone home after the challenge, but one player from each losing tribe will receive immunity based on the best record in his two games, with runs-differential as a tiebreaker (runs allowed as a second tiebreaker, runs allowed at home as the third if needed, and then a coin flip if needed).

Thank god soxyanks is gone from my team.

Tribe 2 sounds like a bathroom code.  Aljohn, as team captain you better come up with something better than that!

Goodbye Dolphins, hardly knew ya, but after beating me twice I am sorry to see you go.  You were a worthy competitor.

To clarify, if you choose a season/division with six teams, you pick 5 of those 6 teams to use.

Kind of had a bad feeling about the vote as I didn't hear from anyone on my tribe about what was going on. Not really sure why the vote went my way as I won both of my individual games within the challenges and tried to do as much research as I could. So it goes I guess. Josh, if there's another round of Survivor, count me in. I enjoyed the concept and love the show. Hopefully, I can have better results next time. Good luck, red tribe.

Thanks dolphin man... you're a class act.  I'm sorry it went down this way for you...
As you said you won both of your games and contributed in the research.  Cya around soon, man...
8/9/2010 7:39 PM
lmao...sounds like the pink tribe had a bit of a communication issue with the vote...good thing for you that our gracious host split u idiots up!
8/9/2010 8:22 PM
Says the biggest idiot of them all...

On a side note dolphins, you did great man, nothing more you could have done than what I mentioned to you earlier. I think you did make a name for yourself though for the next go around as a guy a team wants around.

Team selections are in. Matchups will be posted within the hour.
8/10/2010 11:50 PM
Games must be played by midnight Tuesday (later deadline than originally posted because there are 15 different matchups to get in, at least one player will be away through the weekend, and with two votes riding on it I want to have the games played by each participant if possible).

Teams must use a different starting pitcher in each of their two games. When posting scores, please list the SP for each team. Two of the three tribes will send someone home. One player on each of the two losing tribes will get immunity, based on best record in the two games (tiebreakers are runs allowed, then runs allowed at home, then a coin flip).

Please verify that the matchups and team selections appear correct, and sitemail me if anything needs to be changed. Each member of the winning tribe will also receive a bonus that could be helpful in future challenges.
