As a new player to HBD (I'm in my second season) I was fleeced in my first season. Granted it wasn't egregious but it still left me feeling stupid and fairly angry at the owner that fleeced me. And the only reason I realized I was fleeced was because multiple owners messaged me asking what I was doing. Somehow the trade still went through though. And now I know who I'll never trade with again.

I think something that would go a long way is better world policing on trades. I think for veteran owners to reach out to the new guy and start to build a rapport with him but also to understand his logic in the trade before he Accepts or Vetos the trade, might help a bit.

I also saw in another thread about a mentors, this could be a great way for a veteran in another world to take a quick look at the new owners team and give him some quick tips or pointers on what he thinks. I also know there was also a csherwood style thread being built. While I'm not sure a brand new owner would read it or understand it, it's a good way for relatively new owners to understand how roster building could work and things to take into consideration during various parts of the season. I know it helped me quite a bit.

These are just my thoughts from a current newbie. But for the record, even after that trade experience, I love this game and these forums are great to read and learn from. So I thank you all for that!
Agreed! (and welcome to HBD!)...nowadays the first line in my notes for a team shows who the A-holes were who tried it so I can remember...for a long time! most common fleece attempt is new owners not knowing that even tho a player might be 22 and theoretically 5 more years til peak, he's been a pro for 4 years already and is nearly done, so those lofty projections will never be achieved.

I was lucky that a couple offers struck me as too good to be true so I passed, but almost didn't. and there were 2 deals where I was suckered and hope to someday beat those owners in a WS Game 7, in no earlier than the 13th inning, because the guy they took from me makes an error, with a full count and bases loaded, and his team was already aging so the moment signifies the end.

Another idea following the same train of thoughts on trades and maybe more programmatically doable, would be to make a rule so that all players traded must be added to the trading block and remain there for at minimum o 12hrs before they can be traded I would say that the goals should be 1) Entice the new owner to keep their future HOF player by realizing that they are getting multiple good offers for their player 2) If the new player insists on making trades, at least they are getting better trades by shopping their future HOFer around. 3) Spread those ill tradeded HOFers around so that one predatory owner doesn't develop a pipeline.

This is a tough one for me to agree with. Often times the best deals I get are by putting in the work, asking owners who are out of playoff contention if they will trade some guys and going team by team looking for players that fit what I’m looking for. By ‘best deals’ I don’t mean ripping players off but I mean finding a best fit for my team. So if I find a guy I want, I have to ask the owner first, then have the player put on the 12 hour trade block, then make the deal. This is rough if it’s right up against the trade deadline. Plus, it doesn’t ensure an owner doesn’t get fleeced. They could get 3-4 offers and end up turning down the 3 best ones.

ultimately, mentoring and having someone to bounce trade ideas off of is the best tool for new owners.

Playoff Starting Pitchers: I made the LCS but there wasn’t one of those baseballs on the Pitching Staff page indicating who would start my next game so I figured it would start the guy after the last guy.

But they started the guy who started my last game - whose fatigue was in the 50s. He lasted 0.2 innings and got shelled.

I understand (now) that every round of the playoffs you have to readjust your roster and determine who you want in the SP1 spot but why make it an unexplained mystery that is different than the way the game has been played for months?

That's both dumb and easy to fix. It's no wonder this game has trouble attracting new players.

One feature I wish we could add, maybe alongside the trade needs or trade block is a "Team Mode" button for each team to click. By that I mean are you in "Win Now" mode, looking to improve your ML team? "Rebuild Mode" seeking prospects? "All-in Mode"? That would be useful info to have when looking for trade partners, because sometimes looking at other managers' rosters, I have no idea what the hell y'all are aiming for.

Good feature Zbosco13!

Also, Just because I'm heading into draft season. I have 160+ players to rank, there has to be a better way to move players up and down the draft board. Another plea for CSV uploading of draft board.

The function to move players up and down your draft board is hilariously bad.

I know I mad a mistake when looking at my spreadsheet and I accidentally ranked about ten scrubs very highly. Even being able to ctrl+ select or shift+ select to choose multiple players at once would be helpful. Or maybe a text box next to the player where you can type in where you rank the player.

completely agree with this...I make a spreadsheet of teams using last year's record to guess whether they are in win-now or rebuild mode...and have used who made the playoffs last year as a barometer...but neither works. it seems that only 3-5 teams are ever in "win now" mode and at least 10 are in tear-it-down mode.

another suggestion is to start preparing for an extra wild-card team since it seems MLB is looking to make that permanent. Don't know the programming implications given the current code base, but it will be a bad/outdated look if MLB has the extra team and HBD doesn't.

I know it's anecdotal, but this is the type of stuff that could get people to leave the game, disenjoy the game, or at worst, rage quit.

My prospects are on a maximum pitch count of 5 pitches each game. Any time they show an ounce of lossed energy, i manually deactivate them (even at 99 energy). I am doing everything I possibly can to avoid injury. However, other teams who play the crap out of their players, even while they're fatigued have the same frequency of injury?

If it was just my guys getting injured despite minimal innings, I would still be angry and need to vent, but this combination of seeing other owners pitch their prospects like normal pitchers (150+ innings a season), overplay their position players into Oblivion (1400+ innings played each season despite durability ratings in the 70s) and their players rarely get injured despite blue fatigue numbers is maddening.

Please please please slightly increase the injury risk of fatigued players and slightly decrease the injury risk of players that are playing on full energy.

Edit -- just to be clear, im not requesting that injuries need to be taken out of the game. I'm also not arguing that they need to be generally less frequent. Im arguing that they need to be more imbalanced -- more frequent for fatigued players, less frequent for non- fatigued players. I know the FAQ, player's guide and old developer chats read that this is already the case, but I think it needs to be even more the case.

26 man rosters and $571k league minimums.

Runner on 2nd base in extra innings please. Nobody likes the 18 inning game that decimates your entire bullpen.

TheLowster I like the suggestion but it would also require decreased rating bumps for players that don't work an expected amount of innings/abs

The $571k minimums would probably need to match an increased overall budget. I like the idea of slightly increasing budgets each year, like most pro sports, so it's not a zero-sum game every season..."that $8mm contract won't look so bad in a couple of years"
