From your 58 Cubs, I am going to take out P Bill Henry as your 2nd dagger. Why? Just because.
4/6/2024 11:36 PM

Having lost Ron Guidry to the dagger, this team has taken on a more offensive direction, built around Mel Ott as its centerpiece. Looking at my division mates, both kentol and Ribbentrop figure to have excellent pitching staffs, but neither one has much in the way of power (no players with more than 25 HRs). So I’ll be rolling the dice and going with fire against ice: Mel Ott (36 HRs), Hank Sauer (35 HRs), Reggie Jackson (27 HRs), and Jeff Burroughs (23 HRs), playing in the hitter’s haven known as Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.

We may not have enough innings to get through the season—and Gene Garber and Larry McWilliams are likely to get lit up with dingers at home—but without Guidry, there was really only one way to build this team.

And if nothing else, putting a $9.2M Mel Ott (.311/.442/.583) in Fulton County Stadium in a league like this one should make for some interesting box scores.

lennyistall - it took me a while to find a dagger target from your 38 Phillies -they are not very good! I honestly could not find a good target from any of the starting offense or pitching. You've only got 4 possible choices at 2B with the lowest two being $2.4M and $2.9M so you've already got problems there without my help. The pitching is just plain bad.

I will go with addition by subtraction. You MUST roster 6 players from this team so I'll take away an obvious low cost option and let you figure it out.

Say goodbye to your $423K option OF Tuck Stainback.

Interesting team build for me as I am lucky to have kept Eddie Murray in the 1st dagger round as he can play 3B and solves my two expensive 1B options. He has a terrible glove there so please don't hit it to him! I think Sportsman Park would have been interesting with this team and Medwick but will have to go another route. Have some poor hitting players at C and SS but the lineup is anchored by Johnny Mike, Joe Medwick, Eddie Murray and Ken Singleton and that I can work with!

Saving the $$$ at C, SS, and 2B has allowed me to have a decent staff. I like having Seaver, Palmer, Koosman, and McGregor as my 4-man rotation and the 68 Mets have helped the Pen!

The Chesapeake Crab Cakes are now presented for review!

Two messages from mavioric12 this morning.

1. ermocito can hit 78 Mariners with dagger #2 (oh, I will....)

2 For Beernoser, the 2nd dagger will hit SS Alvin Dark - the best SS option by far.
4/8/2024 8:37 AM
mavioric12 has a tough challenge figuring out which 6 of these terrible Mariners to roster. I tried - it was hard. It will be harder without Leon Roberts, who was actually one of the top 3 OFin your entire player pool. For your 6 slots you have a decent RP and a bunch of bench riders, not all of whom will be cheap.

I would have hit a SP but Seattle actually has NO pitchers with 200 IP at all.

Budget won't be as big a concern for you as player quality.

These are the "final four three one" dagger to be thrown before rosters can be finalized. I hope we get all four today so we can get this league align and play some games! Obviously the dagger recipients will need some time to finalize rosters after the dagger 2 hits. More details on page 1.

I guess my first pick of the 48 Braves wasn't the best as I only used 1 1/2 of their hitters in my final roster. I tried so hard to get Johnny Sain onto my staff but it just couldn't be done within budget. What my roster pool was missing was the 50 inning decent reliever. My 100 inning relievers gave me 1550 innings even if I could have gotten Sain in the budget.

Both screw teams did good jobs giving me not much to play with. I got an outfielder Roy Sievers from the Nats who I'll play mostly at 1B. From the Cubs I have two starters who are both worse than my Braves starters but I had to get some Cubs in there, I ended up needing a lot from my final team, the 48 Yankees. Young Yogi will catch, and Tommy Henrich will be in the outfield. Since Alvin Dark was daggered, young Phil Rizutto will play short. There's a break for the Yankees. DiMaggio didn't make the cut and wasn't even a close call. I tried to squeeze in Sain, but didn't even try for Joltin Joe. I had good outfield options without him. The secret weapon of the Yankees was 3B Bobby Brown who also plays second, and short. I wanted to play Eddie Stanky but at 350 at bats I needed someone to split the at bats with him and I didn't have anyone. I didn't want to have to play Snuffy Stirnweis who wasn't bad but would make me not roster Stanky's 455 OBP. Bobby Brown will platoon with Stanky at 2B with a 383 OBP but bad defense.

The first dagger of Senators pitcher Johnny Schmitz was a killer as he was going right into the rotation and was a Senator. The second dagger of Alvin Dark I thought hurt a lot because Rizutto was a major downsize, but with my budget woes, I may have had to go with Phil regardless.

My pitching staff is better than it normally is but I only have three pitchers with over 160 innings which may cause me to do too much juggling for a 10 man staff. Losing Schmitz really hurt. So did losing Johnny Sain to budget concerns. I tried my best but couldn't get him in. He ballooned me up to 1550 innings and I didn't have the low inning good relievers to compensate elsewhere. I guess that's cause all my teams were from the pre-bullpen days.

Overall I have I think a good team, but I always think that and then finish below 500. We'll see.

Calhoop… say goodbye to 1958 Duke Snider!

I thought about daggering a RP from this Dodgers team, but Snider is far too productive at his price point to not hit… best of luck this season!
