85-yard TD drives in less than 2 minutes are no easy feat. I wouldn't call failing to score in the last 2 minutes "crapping the bed."

You've just become accustomed to seeing them every other game against the Packers defense, but against a real team they're much more "heroic" than expected.

How does Brett Favre look now, boys? What is Packer Nation saying?
If they are pro Favre they point to 5 losses by a combined 14 points and say Brett coulda won them. If the offense gets the ball back with under 5 minutes to play and needs the winning score or to ice the game they have been picked or 3 and out.

I know that a couple times, on possible game-winning drives with less than 2 minutes to go, Rodgers has been picked. It's happened 2 or 3 times.

But you're discounting all the times that he's driven the team to put them ahead with under 5 minutes to go, that SHOULD be a game-winning drive. It's the defense's fault that he's forced to try to put together ANOTHER game-winning drive, this time with even less time on the clock and he has to force things.

Bottom line, if Favre is leading this team I think they win no more than 7 games. Defense this poor is nearly impossible to overcome.

Favre was roundly crucified when he threw a pick with time winding down or he had less than talented WRs to work with... why should A-Rod get a free pass? QBs are going to make mistakes...happens, I just get a kick out of the way the people that bashed Favre for throwing game ending picks (I'm talking media, not present company) are falling over themselves in excusing Rodgers.

I do agree with you tho, Favre doesn't make an appreciable difference with this team. I was trying to point out that there seems to be two different opinions depending on how a person views Favre. Right or wrong, if a person loved Brett it seems like he would have succeded where the present offense failed in their opinion. Religion, politics, and Favre.

Charles Woodson and Nick Collins named to the Pro Bowl.

Yay?

Woodson and Collins have, almost unquestionably, had great seasons. Harris has been solid, and Tramon Williams has emerged.

Yet the pass D has been pretty pathetic lately. What gives?
12/16/2008 9:12 PM
They refuse to play Rouse at safety, and Bigby is hurt, so they moved Woodson to safety where he isn't covering anybody and Williams has been pretty horrible the last few weeks.
12/16/2008 9:28 PM
I wonder what Rouse did to get on the coaches' bad side. I thought he was actually a playmaker when he was out there last year. And Woodson is a cover corner: playing him at safety takes away his best skill.
12/17/2008 7:36 AM
Rouse was injured.

I say Favre does make a difference with this team record wise. 1 losing season in his career with the Pack. he's proven this year he can lead a team to victory, just see the new england game. The defense has sucked this year but the Pack had poor defenses when Favre was here.

Rodgers isn't the problem and with Favre the Packers probable wouldn't win the Super Bowl (or the Jets this season) but I think he would rally the troops and win more right now.

If Rodgers can have a game against chicago monday night it be a positive for him and the team heading into next season but even if he plays well and the Packers lose we will still have doubts.

I can remember all the old-timers saying "Bart Starr would have won that game" when the Packers would lose and was QB.
12/17/2008 12:34 PM
It's possible that Favre would've led the team to an extra win or two this year. It's not a sure thing, but it's possible.

However, I think the whole premise of the Favre trade was that, if Rodgers didn't get to play this year he was gone (I have no proof of this, but it makes sense). You could choose between an extra year or two of Favre (which we have no proof would be much better than Rodgers now) or a decade of Rodgers.

So far it's looking like the right move.

What is there to say after that display?
12/22/2008 11:01 PM
you could start with, 'Sorry, fans of good football'
12/22/2008 11:24 PM
"How the hell are the Bears in the playoff race?"

and also "Lions 24, Packers 21 (OT)"
12/23/2008 10:26 AM
I will not deny that there were some moments today where I felt the Packers would lose this game... but the Lions proved to be slightly more incompetent. Hooray?
12/28/2008 9:23 PM
I almost expected the Packers to find a way to cough it up, too.

Unfortunately the Jets lost today, keeping the Packers' pick from the Jets a 3rd-rounder.

Favre's play in the last several weeks was very reminiscent of his play 3 seasons ago during the 4-12 year. I think it has been confirmed that the QB situation was handled correctly.
12/28/2008 11:00 PM
Agreed.

If Brett retires now, we have to give the Jets a 6th rounder back.

It actually may be better that it's a 3rd-round pick since Ted seems to have trouble in the higher rounds anyway.
