Rule V 28th Leg Draft Thread Topic

well it looks nearly hopeless for me. phillies slide through virtually unscathed, mets better than me to start with. only team that looks beatable are the Braves who got taken deep more than once. hello 75 wins (if we are lucky)

I felt good about my A's last leg, too, and we missed the playoffs, so you never know.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com is reporting that the Red Sox roster might not have Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz on it. There is talk of having a run prevention approach to the upcoming season. Jacoby Ellsbury and Ellis Burks are rumored to be patrolling LF for the Sox. Mike Lowell is said to be upset about this development.

I wouldn't believe it. You can never trust that Bradford guy;-)

Losing Lenny Dykstra was a bad blow.

John Farrell will right the ship for him. We have this great throwing program that keeps pitchers arms healthy. If not, we'll call Leo Mazzone's talk show down in Atlanta, he knows a little something about pitching.

Pretty pleased to have only lost Hoffman from the Pads. He's sucked badly for me the past three times I've used him so not all that upset to see him go.
5/25/2010 7:39 AM
He pitched very well for me last leg when I snatched him for the Cards.

The Indians faired pretty well. I gambled on Victor Martinez and him unprotected until the third round. I never protected Vizquel and he didn't get selected. I lost no players the first two rounds. I didn't mind losing Sabathia as I wasn't planning on using him.

The only player lost that I was going to use was Rafael Betancourt. Even though he has the best numbers of any Cleveland RP, I've never had success with him in the sim, so I'm not too upset about that.

The Indians lineup...

CF Kenny Lofton .349 .412 .536 (86/103 SBs) A/A-
2B Roberto Alomar .323 .422 .533 (37/43 SBs) A/C-
RF Manny Ramirez .333 .442 .663 C/D+
LF Albert Belle .357 .438 .714 C/C-
3B David Wright .325 .416 .546 (34/39 SBs) C+/A-
1B Jim Thome .304 .445 .677 C+/D
C Victor Martinez .301 .374 .505 A/A/B
SS Omar Vizquel .333 .397 .436 (42/51 SBs) A-/C-

Starting Lineup Totals .328 .418 .576

Key Bench Players
Bo Diaz .313 .359 .533
Eduardo Perez . 303 .343 .636
Kevin Seitzer .386 .480 .542

The pitching won't be as strong as some other teams, but with the addition of J.Schmidt and T.Hudson, they're way better than a typical Rule V Indians team.

Gaylord Perry 356 IP, 1.92 ERA, .205 OAV, 0.98 whip, 0.45 hr/9
Sam McDowell 287 IP, 2.94 ERA, .213 OAV, 1.14 whip, 0.41 hr/9
Tim Hudson 240 IP, 2.70 ERA, .223 OAV, 1.08 whip, 0.56 hr/9
Jason Schmidt 208 IP, 2.34 ERA, .200 OAV, 0.95 whip, 0.61 hr/9

Ken Sanders 28 IP, 1.65 ERA, .188 OAV, 0.99 whip, 0.66 hr/9
Doug Jones 84 IP, 2.27 ERA, .218 OAV, 1.02 whip, 0.11 hr/9
Rafael Perez 60 IP, 1.78 ERA, .187 OAV, 0.92 whip, 0.74 hr/9
Bob Howry 73 IP, 2.47 ERA, .191 OAV, 0.89 whip, 0.49 hr/9

As is typical of the Dodgers, I lost a fair bit of starting pitching in Valenzuela, Hershiser, Nomo and Messersmith. Orel didn't fare very well for schwarze last leg, so I protected Singer instead. Nomo pitched pretty well last time around, and he's probably the one I'll miss the most out of those four. Lost no position players, and my lineup isn't bad. Not much speed, but I'll probably set it up like this:

SS Furcal .300 .369 .445
CF Edmonds .311 .420 .561
C Piazza .362 .431 .638
1B Clark .333 .407 .546
3B Beltre .334 .388 .629
LF Guerrero .320 .422 .577
RF Ramirez .332 .430 .601
2B Oquendo .291 .375 .372

Don't have the totals for just the starters, but including bench it will be .317/.399/.527.

Haven't ever used Will Clark, Pedro Guerrero or Jose Oquendo, so this should be interesting. Stealing a bit from schwarze's template last leg with great range in the infield (A+ at every spot except 3B, which is A-). Edmonds is A range in center as well.

Pitching staff will be as follows:

SP1 Don Sutton 285IP 2.08ERA .189OAV 0.91WHIP
SP2 Bill Singer 316IP 2.34ERA .210OAV 1.01WHIP
SP3 Kevin Brown 230IP 2.58ERA .215OAV 0.99WHIP
SP4 Odalis Perez 223IP 3.00ERA .226OAV 0.99WHIP

A bit nervous about Odalis, but I haven't used him for quite a while and hoping being in all the pitchers parks with great defense will help. Now the bullpen:

Long Guillermo Mota 105IP 1.97ERA .206OAV 0.99WHIP
SetupA Takashi Saito 64IP 1.40ERA .151OAV 0.72WHIP
SetupA Jonathan Broxton 76IP 2.61ERA .165OAV 0.96WHIP
SetupB Steve Howe 1.44ERA .217OAV 0.98WHIP
SetupB Jay Howell 3.18ERA .213OAV 0.98WHIP

Staff totals: 1502IP 2.30ERA .200OAV 0.95WHIP

If we can't win with this team, we might as well just give up.

Your leg 28 NY Yankees lineup:

CF Rickey Henderson .314 .419 .516 80 steals
3B Wade Boggs .342 .433 .489
SS Derek Jeter .349 .438 .552
RF Paul O'Neill .359 .460 .603
2B Alex Rodriguez .321 .421 .610
1B Jason Giambi .314 .435 .598
LF Kevin Mitchell .291 .388 .635
C Jorge Posada .338 .426 .543

Bench players of note:

Oscar Gamble .389 .542 .735
Glenallen Hill .333 .378 .735
Shane Spencer .373 .411 .910

Starting Pitchers

LH Ron Guidry 272 IPs 1.74 ERA, .193 OAV, .95 WHIP
RH Nolan Ryan 220 IPs 1.69 ERA, .188 OAv, 1.12 WHIP
LH C.C. Sabathia 230 IPs 3.37 ERA .232 OAV 1.15 WHIP
RH Mike Mussina 229 IPs 3.15 ERA .237 OAV 1.07 WHIP

Bullpen

LR Rick Reuschel 196 IPs 2.27 ERA .215 OAV 1.06 WHIP
LR Grant Jackson 60 IPs 1.69 ERA .186 OAV .92 WHIP
SU Sparky Lyle 83 IPs 2.51 ERA .216 OAV 1.02 WHIP
SU Tom Gordon 90 IPs 2.21 ERA .180 OAV .88 WHIP
SU Goose Gossage 71 IPs .77 ERA .141 OAV .78 WHIP
CL Mariano Rivera 70 IPs 1.40 ERA .165 OAV .67 WHIP

We'll miss Bobby Murcer and our defense will suck ***, but we hope to bludgeon our way through. A lot will depend on the A-Rod at 2B experiment. We didn't want to do it, but we just couldn't leave Boggs on the bench.

8. 2B '74 Grich .263/.376/.431
overall .312/.409/.516, 207 HR, 107 SB

defense is very strong up the middle, with SS/CF/2B all A+ range. Yaz is the only real weak link defensively.

long relief:
RH '73 Reynolds 111/1.95; 1.07/.219

overall 1,646 innings, 1.02 WHIP, .209 OAV, 6.14 K/9, 2.41 BB/9, 0.50 HR/9

the only loss that really affected my plan was Frohwirth. wasn't planning on using Anderson and Alomar because of their tendency to underperform, and Tejada was redundant with Ripken. obviously a tough division with NY and Boston though.
