Newsflash: The center's always moving. There is no one "neutral", or "moderate" center at all times in all places. In Nazi Germany, being a Nazi would be the centrist position. In most Scandinavian countries, I would be center-left. In the Soviet Union, I would be right wing. The center is whatever the center of the overton window is at any time.

The center thought Lincoln was a radical at one point, to the point a war was fought over it. The center evolves and moves.
