Also, I think a change in our format may be coming once we get to Round 16.  This is simply taking too long.  Start preparing yourselves now for the possibilities of two rounds a day or making two picks at a time starting with Round 16, roughly a week from today.
4/24/2011 9:09 AM
Agreed and agreed, wouldn't mind if we even do it sooner.  The only problem with two picks at a time is, quite frankly, someone might find themselves really screwed if there's a position run... like, say, backup goalies.

Again, two picks at a time put those of us in the bottom of the draft in an even worse position than we already are. I'm in favor of 2 rounds a day, but two picks at a time is not fair to those of us at the bottom of the draft board.

Thanks for the feedback, fellas.

Do you have any other possible proposals for speeding things up?  Seems like the longer we take, the more people lose interest (which I can't blame them for).  2 picks at a time isn't fair.  2 rounds a day will likely only cause some teams to fall behind and the entire process to get more messy.

I'm beginning to think a draft is lose-lose.

This would be SOOOOOO much easier if WIS created more commish tools for the game.  Just get everyone to sign up for the league and conduct the draft inside the league, with players disappearing from the database as they are chosen.

Don't stress yourself, you really can't control anything about how much time owners have to spend on this site, how often they're online.

Remember, the top 240 players are already off the board, the only high value players who haven't been picked yet are ones with significant injury issues.

(Including that ridiculous Darin Kimble, who I think is the single dumbest player value in the entire database.)

I would think two rounds per day is alright.  If there are owners who aren't able to make it, maybe we (or you, or I, or someone else) can go ahead and make picks for them.

Random thoughts/opinions-
I would recommend 1 1/2 rounds a day personally- with 30 min time slots, you can still fit 16 picks pretty well in 18 hours.   Depending on when you start that, you could finish the rest in 9 days of drafting (current weekday format, 2 weeks)
To me, two picks in a row is basically telling me that I lose my round 16 pick, then get a make up pick later... which we're still talking about players who are playing every game for my team!  This would cut us down to 7 days... still two weeks.
I also personally (and would probably be out voted) say that weekends should be used as well (I understand this one), since that would make us finish the last 13 rounds in two weeks.
The other alternative I see that wouldn't help those who can't hit times, is to do 15 min slots to get 2 rounds a day- that still means we will have 7 days of drafting- putting us again into two weeks.

So pretty much any way you cut it, we're looking at two weeks still.  The current format just stretches into three weeks.  But I don't know if any of the solutions are worth the pain if it means more people will miss picks.  Just my $.02 that the best couple of options are 1 1/2 rounds a day or weekends if we really need to speed this up... but I don't know if saving 3 or 4 days is really a large impact.

yah, the time isnt a realy biggy (in my opinion) as how long did it take to fill up this league anyways?  I dont see the big deal in doing 2 picks at a time is anyways.  From rd 16 down surely there isnt going to be a huge difference from round to round in the quality of the players.  After all what is the difference from the 288th best player to the 312th best player?  maybe 1/2 of a percentage point in overall quality?  If this allows us to speed things up isnt it worth it?  Heck Im willing to give up my 5th pick to chuck or anybody else if we can do 2 picks at a time...???

2 picks at a time starting round 16 would be fine, IMO. That is lots of warning so guys can start filling holes now. Two rounds same day is harder to do since I need to get online twice - plus other draft and setting teams etc

Drafting 23 players would take 23 days of drafting not counting the weekends. We knew it would take this long when we joined the league. I vote to leave it as is. Changing to rules during the process is not good.
