PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

I don't think they have the Packers have the pieces to run this defense but I know Julius Peppers says he wants to play in a 3-4 defense. This would require Ted Thompson to open up the checkbook.

Bold prediction: Rex Ryan cuts Favre. Favre ends up in Minnesota.

Colin Cole having discussions with Tampa Bay, and Seattle is reportedly interested as well.

Packers have made overtures to Dallas D-lineman Chris Canty but do not appear to rate high on Canty's list.

Giants sign former Seahawk DT Rocky Bernard, probably no longer interested in Canty.

Unfortunately, Canty's next visit is to Seattle.

so the packers will go after the overs.

Canty ends up signing with the Giants anyway, gets $17M guaranteed. Packers were unwilling to commit to any contract numbers without a physical, etc. so his agent told him to take the offer in hand from New York.

Colin Cole signs with the Seahawks, gets $6M guaranteed (according to his agent; nfl.com reports $5M). Agent wouldn't discuss if Packers were in the running.

Sounds kind of dumb of Canty's agent. Unless the Giants set a deadline.

Ted Thompson's winter nap is apparently over; reports have the Pack interested in Pittsburgh safety Anthony Smith.

This is the guy that guaranteed a victory against the Pats in 2007 and then got burned like he was Ahmad Carroll.
3/5/2009 4:43 PM
Smith signs with the Packers, Igor Olshansky goes to Dallas.

Packers reportedly interested in Kevin Carter.

PACKER UPDATE!!!!

um, nothing going on in Green Bay. No visit for Carter has been scheduled, though contact supposedly continues.

"CB" Jarrett Bush got an offer from Tennessee, the Packers will reportedly match it. The Packers gave Bush, a restricted free agent, only a $1.01M tender, giving them no compensation if he signed elsewhere, since he was an undrafted free agent coming into the league.
3/16/2009 11:03 PM
"DE" Michael Montgomery, probably better suited to LB in the 3-4, has resigned with the Packers. Montgomery was an unrestricted free agent and it was originally felt the Packers would let him sign elsewhere since he doesn't seem to be a good fit in the 3-4. Having added no other linemen in free agency, however, Montgomery adds some needed depth to a shallow group.

Packers will open the 2009 season on Sunday Night Football against Da Bears, will also be in Detroit on Thanksgiving.

It must be spring; Ted Thompson woke up from his winter nap to talk to a free agent. Buffalo OL Duke Preston has reportedly agreed to terms with the team.
