Because all those poeople, not striking out, are contributing to team run scoring?
Make sense to me.
Makes me wonder why you won't bet that teams that strike out the least don't score the most runs.
It depends, there are other factors involved which is why you can't just compare k's to runs. If the team that strikes out alot also hits more homeruns then it is a wash and how many times that team k's is irrelevant

So teams that strike out least won't score the most runs?
Even with all those productive outs?
SHOCKING!

In modern baseball, has a team that struck out the least EVER scored the most runs, do you suppose?
2/21/2008 5:35 PM
I dont know but id be willing to bet not because they probably arent hitting for much power.
Either way, its obviously not the k's that are causing the increased runs for teams that k more often, its the homeruns.

so the greater reward of hitting a homerun may be worth the risk of striking out.

WHAAAT?

You can compare things, based on how likely they are to happen, and how beneficial they are?

IMAGINE MY SURPRISE.

How harmful to run scoring do you suppose a double play is? What's the average contribution to run scoring from "productive outs?"
2/21/2008 5:40 PM
I dont know but with men on base I am still going to go to the plate wanting to put the ball in play as opposed to swinging for the fences and potentially striking out.
2/21/2008 5:44 PM
Oh yeah?
You wouldn't like that opinion to be informed by the extra run production that could (or could not) happen over your career?
I mean, if that knowledge was out there.
Like, if someone already knew that there was no added value in run creation when you "put the ball in play (for an out)" you wouldn't want to know that?

You know what I'm arguing. A player who strikes out has done NOTHING to help his team in that AB. I like players who do SOMETHING to help the team.
Then why can't you say it? You think striking out less helps the team score more runs.

Is this really still going on? You guys all should have had time to complete an entire stats class by now, and this thread could be put to rest.

Some of us have already taken quite a few statistics classes.
Guess which ones!

No, I am just amazed that you could actually go on for 20+ pages on this subject, and be consistently wrong the whole time.

Watching bosux be wrong is nothing new.
