Flyers way overpay Jones $2.75 per for 2 years. Big mistake if you ask me. Flyers are now over the cap and have untill the season starts to get back under.

quote from Holmgren in todays Philadelphia inquire

"That's it for us," Holmgren said. "We have something else on the table for one other guy, but we're not sure where that's going to go." My comment if this is it I am fine with that I just think this means that either a $2mil forward will be traded for a pick or Hatcher is totally done (this is the most likely 1 to happen).

Some highlights of some of the unknown players we got.

Well, seems there's no such thing as overpaying defensemen at this point. Redden will be a bit of a weight on the Rangers payroll and I think Chicago (as well as other teams) is really over estimating Campbell. Timonen may be costly but I trust him in both ends of the ice, unlike some other high paid Dmen. I'm not looking forward to seeing what Coburn gets offered next year (edit: two years from now, thank god).

I've heard rumors that guy is Dan Boyle. Very interested to see what we're offering if thats true. Jones & Knuble + would be my hope (don't think that gets it done though) but maybe Holmgren has a bigger blockbuster deal than we've been expecting in the works.

I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation...

Dan Boyle would be nice.

Yeah he would. Just comes down to what it would cost us, in players more than salary. It's also just a rumor, been talked about a lot but not even sure where it started.

I don't think it would be Boyle Tampa is looking to shed money and we don't have the cap room to take any. If I had to guess I would think Holmgren is talking to Chicago about 1 of their young D since they are way heavy there and need a little more leadership and scoring up front to be a real contender. Not saying it is Seabrook but it could be one of their lesser young good D-men.

You might be right about Boyle http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242326&lid=headline&lpos=secStory_nhl but the Boyle rumors seem to come out every year.

I do have 2 problems with this though 1. He would be the highest cap hit on the team, is he worth it? 2. Missed most of last season with a bad wrist injury which can linger for a long time and Tampa rushed him back a little too soon IMO.

I don't know. Even if we lose two forwards and a Dman in a trade we'd still have no lack of scoring or grit up front. A (healthy of course) defensive core of Timonen, Coburn and Boyle would be about as strong as it gets. I'd put us up with Pitt and the Habs as frontrunners to make the finals out of the east, not sure I'd say that as things stand now. At some point we will have to shift more cap space to the back end, haven't looked to see who the FA's are after next year but the way things are going with overpayments we'll never get it done that way.

Eklund (yeah, I know) has reported that Boyle has been asked to waive his NTC and that he's looking into teams he would be willing to do that for.
7/3/2008 2:58 PM
I just don't see us getting Boyle and Eklund's stamp on it should be further proof that he won't be here. I see us going after a lesser name but still good.

For some reason I just think we might be talking to Chicago for someone like Barker or Wisniewski.

Ruzika signed in Russia.

Just stopped home real quick. Looks likewe can stop thinking about Boyle, he and Lukowich went to San Jose for Carle plus. I keep forgetting Canadians don't take the 4th off.
7/4/2008 3:27 PM
Flyers sign winger Arron Asham. Don't know why or for how much. We have way too many players right now on both D and forwards. A trade has to be coming that will ship out a few players.

Holmgren has been extended to 11-12 season.

The bottom is the best news of all.

You are right though...he certainly is stockpiling players for some reason. Maybe he is building up the phantom's talent level so giroux can have a chance at a championship before he's in the bigs.
