Sadly, he has to cool down. No one can hit 115 HR in a season...

Penny looking good.

Astros will be hungry for a w tomorrow. Gotta get those bats fired up.

Cardinals lose in 20 innings tonight. Crazy game and fun to watch. LaRussa refused to use starting pitchers and pretty much conceded the game in the 17th. Had several chances with the bases loaded in extra innings but LaRussa let pitchers hit. I guess we're only 11 games in. I'm ok with it especially if we get the win tomorrow. Sucks to lose a game like that though.

I disagree with the decision though. That's like losing two games at once. When you play 18 and exhaust your bullpen, you better win. Lohse should have been in there.

He was in there. "There" was field, though. The players wanted to win it - they were pumped when they tied it up in the bottom of the 19th. I thought there was absolutely no way they were going to survive two innings with Mather on the mound but they almost did.

Agree. I refuse to believe Lohse and maybe another SP or so couldn't go throw just one inning each. I'm not a TLR basher, but how strange to have Lohse in LF and Mather on the mound. I wonder if some SPs went to TLR and said, "I can give you one, Skip," but he chose against it.

20 innings? Man, that'll mess up your bullpen.

And I'm confused why Ludwick was instructed to try to steal 2nd (as surely he wouldn't go on his own and doesn't have the authority to). Even if he successfully steals, don't the Mets just IBB Albert with 1st open and Lohse on-deck?

I'm also a little curious as to why LaRussa didn't just stick with Lopez, who pitched decently. He should have gone back to him for the 20th, with the way Mathers was in the 19th.

I didn't think that made any sense, either. Ludwick trying to score from second on a fielder's choice was ridiculous, also. That had to be all Ludwick.

I agree ... IF TLR was determined to stick with a position player on the mound, why not let Lopez at least start the 19th, after having a 4-up-3-down 18th?

Once you watch enough Cardinals games, I think you'll come away with the opinion that maybe he isn't quite the genius that everyone (including himself) thinks he is. Granted, his teams have won a lot of ballgames and I certainly can't take that away from him - I just don't understand where the "genius" tag came from. He does do a lot of things that leaves himself open to second-guessing by us mere mortals...

Waiting for the Cards tonight ... In the meantime, though, it was just a lot of fun to see Marmol blow the save for Dumpster. Hopefully the Cubs will fall, again, to the 'Stros.

Bad break on the infield hit to Pence. Bad pitch to a guy who can't hit in Geoff Blum.

Blech.
