I now have the ability to start the season and will do so at some point today.

I'll give everyone another chance to get organized first.

Also, I think I'm going to boost the TV revenue to help out the new guys.

have you upgraded your facilities? because if you havent that needs to priority #1 rather than trying to put together a competitive team for the first season. focus on stadium upgrades and training.

I was wondering about that pitt. As long as I have an active roster I am okay to start, correct?

I didn't see anything on my schedule at all...

note to gregos and arvid: be sure you've put some lines together (even use the 'best line auto' feature if you prefer). If I start the season and you haven't dressed 18 skaters and a goalie, you'll have generic ice skating zombies as your active roster as opposed to the players you signed.

Upgrade the facilities dog? Not sure I even noticied that feature. I fiddled with the gate (merchandise, tickets, etc.) until the advisors approved...

Any ideas regarding training schedule?

I have it set to: short,off,medium,off,long,off,short..etc.

On the , click on Finances. Underneath where you changed your ticket prices their is a "facilities" section where you can upgrade your stadium. That generates money because you can get more fans buying more tickets.

Try not to go too fast on the rest of them until you have a decent idea of what you will get in revenue so that you can see if you can afford them.

If you think that most of your guys are not keepers, you might want to change the balance of the training to be team strategy as opposed to player skills.

If you do all Long Practices, you will really see the health of your players drop like a rock. I just try to do as much as I can without killing them. I like to have them be 100% going into a game, but I suck so that might be one of the things I'm doing wrong.

I practice short every day; even game days; except the 2nd day of back-to-back games, then I give them the day off.

If I have back-to-back days without games, I practice medium the first day, and short the 2nd.

during the offseason, I go medium-medium-day off; medium-medium-day off until the following season schedule comes out, then I adjust it to the game schedule as above.

and a very minimal investment in team strategy training will get you to level 3 in your chosen specialties (offense, defense and power play) pretty quickly.

I'm currently working on getting my behind the net offense to Level 6 to **** all the collapsing defenses I seem to see, and take advantage of my skill at center.

my pending free agents want raises totalling $5.6M.

Hmmm. Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong. I usually practice short 6 days a week, giving them one of the weekend days on which we don't play, off. On back-to-back game days, I give them the second one off. During the off-season, I go long-off-medium-off and by then the new schedule is out and I set up the next month's practices accordingly. Obviously it hasn't helped me a whole lot. Now that I have a new coach on a 1-year trial run, I might try your strategy in-season and see how it works.

yeah, but see above. My young lions have improved so much that my payroll is going above $40.5M for 19 skaters, two goalies and a coach. I'm going to open the season with the minimum number of healthy bodies.

I definitely picked the right guys, I definitely have the right training program, and I'm definitely never going to be able to sign another free agent as long as my team exists.

I mean, there's worse problems to have than an average skill level of 75.68, the #2 goalie in the league and an average age of 22.76, but it IS a problem.
