good efg and ast%, useful options starting and/or bench - yeah I think so

Magic wasn't quick enough to stay in front of quicker point guards. The Lakers would often hide him on a 2 guard or sf and let Norm Nixon and later Byron Scott defend the point. But, he was good at jumping passing lanes and making key defensive plays.

Bird was similar but because of positions he was never asked to defend the small, quick guards. And, he was very opportunistic and clutch defensively. The steal and pass to DJ against the Pistons was just the most prominent example. He did that type of thing a lot when it mattered.

Overall, neither was great defensively, but both were OK and turned it up when the team needed it.

did you already do your investigating on tarheels last known whereabouts? witnesses say they saw tarheel in the draft room cracking jokes about seble a mere 2 mins before jpevans made his pick...why the sudden disappearance? was it moncreif? his wife? drexler? important phone call? still trying to figure out which pick will screw dh the most?

16. amerk1180 - Tim Duncan, Dikembe Mutombo, Ray Allen - Ah, the 2nd Bomber finally goes. The only thing not to like is his defense. You're not going to get everything in this format, though, so hey. I didn't really grade Allen because I took Klay, but he's without a doubt a top 3 bomber with Steph banned.

17. mptrey - Magic Johnson, Kevin McHale, Manu Ginobili - (in Charles Barkley voice) GINOBILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! I have a fondness for Manu in the sim (love him IRL, too). He gives you a bit of everything and is almost the perfect two guard in WIS. usg + efg + def + ast combo makes him so strong in the shooting struggle; has fine boards for a 2 as well. The only thing not to like about Manu is minutes, and at this point in the draft, I'm not worried about minutes anymore so top notch pick. I had Manu as a late 2nd/early 3rd grade.

18. 20ks - Kevin Garnett, Karl Anthony Towns, Draymond Green - Draymond has one absolutely fantastic season and a few others that are fine support years. You have a good amount of assists with this squad without having taken a single guard. You got threes in the front court, too, another difficult to find part. I'm not crazy about it, but I don't hate it.

19. jcred5 - Giannis Antetokounmpo, Gary Payton, Kyle Lowry - I didn't really get the Lowry pick as with Giannis there, you really didn't need to go ham on more assists... but it's not like he's bad. usg, efg, 3s... decent boards... doesn't hurt you too bad defensively (good one year)... Idk. Seems like you're pretty solid. I don't like that you & I are drafting the same positions in round 4.

20. goetz93 - Scottie Pippen, Jason Kidd, Walt Bellamy - Eh, Bellamy's not bad per say... definitely not compared to draft leagues, but I don't love him here, particularly with guys like Zo & Chief still sitting there. He DOES have some good seasons that compliment what you've got going, though... solid contributor in usg+efg. Fine on the boards. Defense is pretty average. He's just a turnover/foul machine, and while you are not going to avoid those in this league, I just think there were better options that do what he does available.

21. longtallbrad - Dennis Rodman, Dwyane Wade, Buck Williams - Buck is a maniac in this league. You've got 8 or 9 very usable seasons, all of which are at least 70 defense. Most of them are at least 35% creb. Most of them are tier 2 usage, 53-58% efg%. There's a couple of those Portland seasons which can play SF when you are forced to put Worm at the 4 that are even better defensively but lower usage... but you have a usage monster in D-Wade hanging out, so it just seems to work on every level. I almost took Buck instead of Brand.

22. jhsukow - Anthony Davis, Steve Nash, Larry Nance - Well, Nance gives you like 10 seasons of 75-100 defense, tier 3/4 usage with 53-58 efg%, absurdly good tov%, and perfectly acceptable boards for a SF. I think I did you a favor by taking Brand, honestly, and wish I had gone with Nance.

23. ashamael - Klay Thompson, Oscar Robertson, Elton Brand - how did you win all those rings?

24. benhoidal - Hakeem Olajuwon, Julius Erving, Hassan Whiteside - and here you're reaping the benefits of being so flexible. You take a lower minute GOD. He's going to be a killer starter some years and a killer backup/rotation guy the rest. I was lowkey hoping nobody would risk the low minutes thing and I could snag him in round 4... pipe dreams... I have them.

Drexler completely blindsided me. I wasn't super excited about him but had talked myself into picking him due to lots of decent seasons, solid D, and plus offensive rebounds/assists from the SG position. He was going to drag team efficiency down a bit but I thought I could afford it, particularly because he would give me a lot of flexibility on boards and assists. And I never in a million years saw either of the guys in front of me taking him (then not only did Drexler go, but he probably would have been picked by both of them, as Moncrief is basically baby Drexler!)

So I'm back at square one in terms of guards. The folks behind me at the turn are probably gonna whittle my board down a bit by necessity. I need to figure out what the heck my plan is there.

As for Lucas - when in doubt go with a familiar player. My love for him is well documented and I think his value gets a boost in this format. He has 6-7 credible seasons to choose from; he mostly brings great boards, solid assists, decent efficiency, and won't hurt me with fouls or turnovers. If you squint he looks a little like Gasol, with more minutes, more boards, and less efficiency and usage.

you mouther snitching bastidge… and here I was getting ready to propose a comedy team up

7. jpevans31 - Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace, Sidney Moncrief - Well, scoring against is definitely going to be fun. Moncrief gives you a solid usg+efg+def+ast at the two... kind of average on the defensive boards but excellent on the offensive ones. Solid tov%. He basically helps you in every facet. Thank god you don't have any 3s or I'd declare you the winner right now.

8. samuelyork93 - John Stockton, Dirk Nowitzki, Clyde Drexler - Not gonna lie, I really like the Glide pick. Solid usg+efg+def+ast. Big on the offensive boards, which helps negate some of the Dirk effect. Gives you threes. Not an efg monster, but overall a solid fit.

9. gerryred - David Robinson,Shawn Marion, Mark Price - This is ******* beautiful, man. ******* beautiful. I don't know how the draft leagues go these days, but I seriously doubt we see Mark Price in the third round in them very often. I could be wrong. What does he do? Nice usg+efg+ast for a team that could use all of them. Threes? Yup. Defense is average, and boards are not great, but you're not getting everything from any point at this ... point. Tov% is surprisingly reasonable.

when i made my list of 21 guys i liked last night around pick 3:6 i had lucas 2nd for me behind manu...great pick

Ewing is another one of the guys I considered in the second round, don't know if that says more about me or the rest of the owners but I think that's a great pick and should be a good guy for CP3 to get the ball to.

5. 24kpyrite - Chris Paul, Bill Russell, Patrick Ewing - I really, really like Ewing here. Several seasons of good usg+efg+def and a couple that aren't as good but still won't hurt you. He's not great on the offensive boards, but he's not bad, and you've got Russell to help with that, anyway. He's really foul prone, so that's unfortunate, but I had Ewing as a mid-late 2nd grade, so picking him up at the end of the third seems like really good value to me. I really like your squad, man.

6. tarheel1991 - Kevin Durant, Tyson Chandler, Jerry Lucas - I know that the prior two picks kind of stole your (leans forward with a twinkle in my eye as though I was fixing to tell a dad joke) THUNDER, but I think this is a really good pick for you. Lucas gives you more solid boards in any of the 8 or 9 seasons you're going to seriously consider. If you decide to play KD at the two for any of the seasons, Lucas can actually work at the three for some of them. It's a versatile pick, and I salute you for it. I had Lucas as an early-mid 3rd value and was hoping against hope he might make it back to me for round four.

he would not have - I had him on either end of the turn - GD-it

We all know you want to do it. Don't be afraid. He's good value here! I thought pretty hard about him myself but didn't think I could make it work.

2. copernicus - Michael Jordan, Mookie Blaylock, Bill Walton - I know you were ambivalent about it, but I think Walton was a solid pick here. He's another guy I was hoping might fall because of minutes.

Y'all really didn't buy my bluff at the beginning when I tried to get y'all to stress about minutes. Oof.

Rebounds, defense, solid efg+usg, ast... he's gonna help you in every way.

3. bds9992 - Karl Malone, Nikola Jokic. Serge Ibaka - Serge completes a solid front line. He gives you defense, a little offense, some threes some seasons, decent boards at the three. I had him as a late 3rd, so this feels the right spot to draft him.

4. kinoa1 - Shaquille O'Neal, Walt Frazier, Bobby Jones - Yeah, I see why people are scared of you. I don't see why he was available. You're picking again in like 7 picks. GD Frightening.
