MLD World Thread #2 Topic

Hope you guys get a kick out of this (I know I did).....

Flyers owner Ed Snider is a John McCain supporter and Pennsylvania, of course, is considered a key battleground state. Palin, meanwhile, is not just running for VP, but the Alaska governor is also the world’s most famous hockey mom.

Here’s some of what we expect will be overheard Saturday night at the Wachovia Center in Philly:

10. “Nice to meet you, can I call you Jean-Pierre?”

9. “I wouldn’t mind a ten-minute misconduct with her, if you know what I mean”

8. “Look, it’s the next Vice President of the Wasilla PTA!”

7. “What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pig? Wait, that’s not right”

6.Obama must explain why he pals around with goons”

5. “Why don’t you sell your right wing on eBay?”

4. “Nobody’s pulled off glasses that well since the Hanson brothers”

3. “Wow, that defenseman’s big enough to shoot and field-dress”

2. “Sure, ‘Flyers' is a fine name, but how ‘bout ‘Mavericks’?”

1. “Hey, it’s Tina Fey!”

With the offseason now underway and the impending retirement of D Troy Honka, Pontiac Firebirds designate LW Jim Rockford as their new Franchise Player.

Roswell Aliens sadly announces that original FP D Ronald Whitaker has played out his last MLD season, but happy to name LW P.J. Wigren as their new Franchise Player.

The Yorkton Millers announce that, as per MLD rules, FP D Thain Saraoja has retired to become the new head coach of the Millers' farm team, the Parkland Rangers. The new FP for the Millers is the former 6th round draft pick, LW Harry Pirttinen.

The Halifax Mooseheads are sad to announce that their longtime Goaltender Leland Irving has chosen to hang up his skates to persue a carreer in politics. Leland has been Halifax's main goalie since day one, and can be credited with making even their bad years just a little bit better.

Leland leaves us with carreer totals of 176 wins, 151 loses, 61 ties and 50 shutouts. Even though Leland suffered thru some horrendusly bad years with pourus defences, and anemic scoring, his 2.29 GAA and 92% SP are very impressive numbers.

When asked about taking this new direction in his life Leland stated, "The Mooseheads are a newer, younger team, and appear to be headed in a new direction. I feel it is best for me to step aside and let new leaders take this franchise to the next level. My heart will always be in Halifax, but now, it is time I move on and tackle a new challenge. That is why I am following my boyhood idol, Mr. Ken Dryden, and moving into politics. I expect you to see me soon, running for office in, a riding near you. I believe my first campain motto may even be, 'Forget Sweese, Vote for Irving!':)"

Hrmmmm The name B.J. Palometsa rings a bell .... I think he was one of the 1st drafted players to enter the league with the "SC Bonus". Kinda neat how he is now getting FP status......

Speaking of the SC Bonus, another 2 are getting handed out in this draft..... which got me thinking.....There's only been a handful of them in 12 seasons of MLD action....... I wonder how the other SC Bonus players have faired? Anyone know? I don't remember the exact names of SC Bonus receivers but if I hear them, bells will go off in my head. Rocky Poutalainen in Gotham was one of them.

pfft Irving........ lol VOTE 4 SWEESE!!!

Oh man......the draft begins tonight and I'm stumped as to what I should do with 1st overall pick........

Do I go with the same old Kingston tradition and take the rare allstar goon RWer?
Do I grab the top Dman, 95 DEF rated and ultimately waste valuable bonus points? Do I grabbed a lesser defensive and younger Dman?
Do I snag a goalie knowing there will likely be a mass exodus of goalie this season?

Decisions decisions......

Check out the best goalie....... decent skills but 26 YEAR OLD!! might as well rename that guy to Will Notimprove!

I just got another FP switch request from the NY Pussycats. (D)Andre Hoyla, another name I recognize as a past "SC" Bonus recipient.

My "Crosby" guy from season 12 has done fairly well OKP. I do expect more from him to come in terms of assists and goals, but he did contribute well when winning the cup, with 9 playoff goals and +13 to his name.

He was the MLD first AllStar drafted goon, but the rough stuff only lasted for 1 season - maybe his other qualities makes him look for points only? I'm not pleased with that, I would have hoped his anger and temper would make him go even harder for goals no matter the PIM numbers on the way.
