I've heard Thoresen wants a one way deal, guessing Holmgren's not so sure about that. I also wonder if Downie will play a year on the Phantoms now. Pretty sure Giroux has a spot on the Flyers thats his to loose at camp, unlikely though, thought he could have played last year.

Great news about Homer, especially if he has a plan the way he's stockpiling guys right now. Hope a trade comes soon, really want to see who we end up with.

Thinking the Asham deal is an answer to Pitt signing Cooke. Don't think it will happen but also thinking about how much fun a Cote/Downie/Asham line would be.

I think Downie for sure will spend the year in the Phantoms. As much as I liked watching him in the NHL last year it may have been too soon for him. He need to mature more before making it in the NHL.

Giroux has a spot on the Flyers next season. Every time Holmgren is asked about him he keeps saying that it would be hard for him not to be on the Flyers next season.

Also it sounds like Parent will probably start in the AHL next season and Hatcher will start the season on LTI until his cap hit can fit under the cap.

Looks like Thoresen rejected Holmgrens 2 way deal and will play in Europe. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242824&lid=sublink03&lpos=headlines_nhl

Jason Smith has signed with Ottawa. Wish he would have gone out west but it's better than the Devils or Rangers having him.

The Flyers may have another defensman coming to camp. Holmgren has invited 2006 2nd round pick Denis Bodrov who may be forced off his old team because they are over the cap after signing Jagr.

Holmgren has said a few times now that Bodrov is at the top of his defensive prospects so I guess Holmgren feels he is better than Parent. There is a newspaper article out of Russia that Bodrov has been offered a 1 way entry level contract by the Flyers but Holmgren hasn't said if that is true or false yet.

The only things I know of Bodrov is he is around 6 foot 185lbs. defensive D-man.

I've been watching that too but there's a lot of false info out there. For one, pretty sure it's impossible to offer him a one way contract, he can only be given an entry level contract. As I understand it his Russian team also has to release him, we can't just give him a contract and take him. I've heard the same thing about Jagr's salary pushing Bodrov out but there's nothing official yet. If your their GM why not trade him and get something back though? It's been interesting following it but everything I read has something in it that doesn't make sense. I also hear that he says he will be in Philly mid Sept. to early Oct. to try out with the team. Don't know much other than that, he's supposedly a defensive defenseman who skates really well and does a nice job handling the puck, sounds great but no one I know has seen him play. Homer seems to have a high opinion of him though so I'll trust that. If nothing else I've learned a few things about the CBA following all of this.

Flyers 08-09 schedule released today... opening day with the Rangers Oct 11

plus....The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Tuesday that former Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins was named player development coach

Bodrov has his team today and will be at the Flyers training camp in September. We will see what happens, if he is ready for the NHL like Holmgren has said he is Bodrov can buy himself out of his contract with his other team before the Flyers can sign him.

Terry Murray is now the head coach of LA. Nobody has replaced him here.

With this new young mobile defense Desjardins maybe a perfect fit for assistant coach, it'll be interesting to see how things play out.

I think I'm going to the Sharks/Flyers game this year so I can see JR...and possibly the Lightning to see Little Mark.

Therien will be replacing Propp as color analyst on the radio this season... wonder what happened to Propp. They didn't really say anything about him in the news story.
8/18/2008 12:41 PM
Propp, a former Flyers star, spent seven seasons as a broadcaster with the team.
"It was mutually agreed upon," Tilger said of Propp's resignation. "We both thought it was time to go in different directions."
Tilger added that Propp, who could not be reached for comment, will "still be an active member of the Flyers' family in his role with the alumni and their functions."

Im not suprised

Propp will probably concentrate on running for elected office. I think he ran for congress in NJ last year.
