Savage Draft League IV Topic

FWIW, I understand both sides here. I get that people are excited about drafting, and about the league, and do agree it's respectful to the rest of the league to proxy where possible. I certainly understand why folks get frustrated when it feels like the same owners are causing delays consistently. I know that feeling of constantly checking your computer to be disappointed. I think albi should understand that it's particularly hard on the owners picking near him, who have a really difficult time figuring out when they're actually going to pick (of course they can proxy as well, to some extent) and try to be more respectful of them.

That said, we have to understand that different people have different levels of time and different levels of engagement with this site, and it's not always realistic to expect every single person in the league to be glued to their computers and ready to pick at a moment's notice. The SLB community is not large, and it does not help us to run off genuinely interested owners, even ones who slow draft leagues down. Also, for a draft like this, I think albi is right that it can be really difficult to proxy when you're 10-15 picks away, because you may need to pivot strategy significantly based on who is picked ahead of you. And finally - albi is also right that it's just a game; there's no time deadline here, and the draft is the most fun part anyway, so let's savor it while we can, lol.

Hey albi: you are about to pick soon. Just wanted to let you know that I found your lack of taking advantage of proxies to be extremely rude. I would never invite you to another draft league tbh. You singlehandedly cost the league several days. I am not the Savage commish so not relevant. But I want to be honest with you here. Personally, I am never going to participate in a draft league that you are a part of.

I don’t know if this message is framed properly and it is a pandemic. But also you were problematic for the third draft in a row. I’ll take the hit.
Might be in the minority, but it doesn't bother me. And rude is probably the wrong adjective in this context. We have this draft once every few months and I don't mind savoring it a bit and getting a breath between picks sometimes. If there was a clock I could certainly understand. I've been in drafts where someone will chew through a day or so, the draft gets put on a clock and then owners are restricted to a tight schedule unfairly. But that hasn't been our problem.

I honestly don’t want to be an ***hole so please let me know if I am going overboard here.
No one wants the draft to hit snags, lag or grind to a halt.
It is a part of what we endure to be basketball or baseball NERDS on WIS.
I’m not sure that a PUBLIC DIATRIBE is an ideal solution for the irritation of a guy taking too much time.

Have we sent site mails informing the ‘slow guy’ of your concerns?
Have we fully explained to them about proxies and how they might ease growing frustrations?
Have we convinced the commissioner that a TIMED DRAFT is needed to offset the frustrations?
If the answer to all of these is NO, then you ARE being an A$$HOLE.

I echo comments made by Tarheel: “The SLB community is not large, and it does not help us to run off genuinely interested owners, even ones who slow draft leagues down.” AMEN (I think WE would benefit by recruiting MORE owners, not alienating the few that remain.)

In regard to Robusks comment of: “Personally, I am never going to participate in a draft league that you are a part of.”….
Come on now, the ‘sabre rattling’ and threats of ‘taking your picks and going home’ is unnecessary and a poor look.

I agree that slow picks are aggravating, but at the end of the draft, and once the season starts, are we really going to still be annoyed by this? I sure hope not. I know I’m going to be worried about how I botched a golden opportunity, and will soon forget who made me wait before I made yet another poor draft pick.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses from tarheel/jcred/beloud/bds and especially abilband0. It brings me no great joy to be a stick in the mud. I am somewhat sympathetic to the situation. Hell even being west coast time can be problematic at times. When I started on WiS, I was Hawaii time which was 6/7 hours apart depending on the time of year.

I agree that the SLBk community isn’t large and that savoring the draft is good. To be honest I am less concerned about the delays and more concerned about having some token regard for other people. Hell, given my draft position it hardly impacted me. I know from talking to other owners that some were though. From my position, 15 picks away, send a short proxy list. If all those players get taken, then we wait for your pick. Not a big deal. At least you demonstrated some sensitivity to the situation.

That’s probably enough from me.

Albi, all I ask is if when you go to bed, and the draft is within 8 spots of you, proxy one person to the owner who drafts behind you. No need for 8, just 1.

Just woke up. Hell of a day yesterday. Need a few minutes. Apologies for no proxy - I had no idea where I was going after the run that happened
