That's akin to saying the only interesting thing about baseball is the homeruns or the only interesting thing about football is the 60 yard touchdown.  However, at the restrictor plate races, you're probably right.

How is the position of a type D draft pick determined?

2/21/2011 6:02 PM

One spot lower than the previous season.    If you didn't sign your 16th pick from the prior season, you'd have 17th pick assuming A) You met his first request B) no one before the 16th pick is getting a comp D pick also(which would move you back one more spot).

What are the chances of an IFA accepting a ML deal with some bonus money over a minor league deal with a big bonus?  Do they usually side to the bigger bonus, or will the ML deal appeal to them more?

Pretty sure it's $$$ based.

what type of crack is kevin millwood smoking these days? he rejected a minor league offer from the yanks.
2/22/2011 9:28 AM
Did Millwood feel that he would have been blocked by the Mark Prior minor league deal with the Yanks?
2/22/2011 9:48 AM
Buttcrack.

Millwood probably felt he couldn't beat out the dozens of castoffs that will be attempting to make the Yankees BL roster.

I just signed a guy who was drafted last year but apparently never signed.  He's 23 years old, but this will be his first season.  What can I expect development wise?  Would not playing at all last season hurt his development, thus making it pretty much impossible to meet his projections?
2/23/2011 8:20 AM
He'll still develop but the missed season is a bad thing.  First, he's 23 so he's closer to his final ratings than a 19 year old.  Second, he may have actually slightly declined by missing his first season.  Third, I don't put much stock in projections.

We're seeing an incrreased amount of lock escalation on a particular table during the production batch cycle for one of our applications.  This in turn is leading to an increased number of -911 lock timesouts and/or deadlocks.  I've tried dumping the dynamic SQL cache and looking at the statements against this particular table, and I've also run the db2advis command against the cached workload looking for indexing opportunities, but nothing is jumping out at me as the cause of the problem.

Any suggestions?  Should we just keep increasing the size of the locklist and hope for the best?
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "who gives a sh*t" and 10 being "that's awesome tec, way to go!", how pleased are you to know that after a week of mind-numbing analysis, I've finally identified and resolved the problem?

-3.  I'll admit I didn't get past the first line the first time.

Herbert's 39 as we enter Season 19. He's willing to come back for Season 20 for $430K.

At what age will Herbert stop offering to come back?
