When these forums are active and positive, which I think this thread does an awesome job of doing, HD becomes better as a whole. I suppose that’s obvious to say but the improvement is significant.

Due to a variety of reasons, the game has never become crazy popular. That’s to say - I never met somebody in real life that knew about this game until I introduced them (proud to say my much smaller coaching tree consists of several titles albeit none recent). I didn’t stumble upon this game, I was introduced by somebody I knew in real life who went by the username tmacfan12 (I wonder if any of you remember who that is - it’s weird to say since I knew him but he’s become actually popular in the basketball-community and several may know him without knowing him as “tmacfan12”).

Being able to take part in or read through discussion is awesome - about strategy and theories, about history of a conference / team / player, bragging about the dice rolling in your direction, complaining about dice rolling in the opposite direction. It’s awesome to read because we play this game and we want to discuss the vast amount of content available.

I completely agree, man. That's a big reason why I wanted to start a thread like this. I never anticipated people would enjoy it as much as they have, or that the thread would grow as much as it has (I started it three months ago now).

I've said this before elsewhere, but I was playing another college basketball sim for a couple years. It went down for maintenance for several weeks and I start poking around for another sim, which is how I got here. HD is WAY more detailed than the other one. I joined here and never looked back. As of this writing, I've gotten four people into the game -- my dad, who now has four teams, my brother, and two friends. One is at low-DI, the other is starting to find his footing at DII. I'm in a college basketball discussion group on Facebook. It has about 5,000 members. I've already gotten the OK to post about HD. I'm waiting for a little while, partly because I'm waiting for the season to ramp up after the new year, partly because I'm waiting for Wooden to get closer to start. (That's the world all four of my people are in, and it's close to my heart). I don't know what the response will be like, but it's thousands of people who love college basketball. So fingers crossed. Everyone I've talked to about the game seem to love the idea of it. Which is why I wish HD did even a little marketing; for all its flaws, the game is great and among the best of its kind. We just need to get the message out to more people, particularly between November and March.

Also, hit me with some of your favorite subreddits. I have a quiet week ahead and will be killing a lot of time.

Tmacfan was a classic character around here. He came charging in full speed ahead and acting like he knew everything, was clowned and put in his place pretty strongly (but somewhat deservedly), then really came around. He learned the game well and became a knowledgeable and interesting player to interact with.

Anyone who was on the forums in those times knows tmacfan. It’s been so long, I bet only the real old timers like myself remember him. That was a lot of HD seasons ago...

Out of respect for him and his privacy, I don’t want to share his name. Especially since I know I, and everyone I have introduced the game to, have had itches to come back. I’ve seen he’s come back a season here or there and wouldn't want him feeling exposed. He’s gotten pretty big on YouTube and I see him doing work with NBA2K and other brands within the basketball community.

ahhh ok. i kinda knew what redditt was... but wasnt aware of subredditt. i feel like redditt comes up when i google things, especially definitions of slang terms, and there seems to be a lot of smart *** answers haha.

But there is far more good than bad, like most communities.

We received a neuro-psych diagnosis for our 8yo today, which we’ve suspected for a while: ADHD and high functioning ASD. (They don’t use the term “Aspergers” as of the DSM-5 update, but that would have been his diagnosis). I thought it was fitting on the day Greta Thunberg (who identifies herself on the spectrum) was named Time’s Person of the Year.

We’ve suspected for over a year. I have been looking into it for a while, and recognized a lot of those symptoms in myself over the years. When the doctor was noting all the boxes our son checked, they all apply to me. Hyper focus on one or two interests; trouble picking up or interpreting social cues; rigidity in thinking, especially as regards rules, principles, fairness, etc.; lack of interest in making friends and social connections; repetitive use of phrases, ideas, concepts; can appear aloof or unconcerned. (And for gil, no, being amazing at math is not an indicator. My math is fine, but it’s not uncommon for folks on the spectrum to really struggle with it, if it is not related to their area of hyper focused interest).

There isnt much utility in getting a diagnoses for myself now in my 40s. But these past few months in this process, I felt like Ray Romano’s character in Parenthood, when he starts seeing himself and his own tendencies and histories in a young person with ASD.

Any folks on the spectrum here willing to talk about it? I’m curious about how folks have dealt with it.

I'm not on the spectrum, nor do I know anyone on it, but I want to make sure people see this.

I don’t have experience with ADHD or ASD myself, but I’m w huge Greta Thunberg fan. Regardless of how you feel about Trump, the maturity and poise she displays at a young age is really really something everyone needs to take after.
