2009-2010 Preview League (FULL) Topic

You might want to make the prospects great to encourage more people to join, I've been looking at some other teams available and they are very weak. Also I made a league like this before and let everyone pick 1 player 3mil or less to be a rookie like ( Taveres) for example, say you pick warren young just have his name changed. What if sports lets you change the players names even the prospects names to real prospects names. Like Rask for Boston.

and if you like that idea maybe for 2nd teams we should pick a weaker team. Leave the good teams for new owners.

if I have to go with a weaker 2nd team, I will take the Avs.

I don't see the Wild being selected anytime soon, so I'll tentatively put you down for them.

I don't want to make great prospects - it drastically unbalances the game, and you don't end up seeing the real players in the roles they should be playing. They're a thing of 50mil leagues.

I didn't know you could change a real player's name, though. Where do you draw the line, though? Should I be allowed to have a Cody Hodgson on Vancouver? It doesn't seem right somehow. If the other owners are up for it, though, I wouldn't mind implementing that rule. Any opinions / objections, anyone?

I think tnuhnai67 has a good idea. Wait, I have no say cuz I don't have a team. I will take Washington and their one man team. Now, like I was saying, I think.......

Ok, my 2nd team (a very weak team, though it may be debateable whether Edmonton and/or Montreal will be weak this season, lol) will be the:

Edmonton Oilers

Flyers stay $25,477,377 under the salary....

I like the idea of having a prospect that is rated high. BTW you can change ANY name when you are running the league.

Okay. Each team may draft the base stats of a prospect coming up through their organization.

Stipulations:
1) the stats player must not be an active NHLer. Just in case something goes wrong with the name change.
2) the player must earn less than 3mil.

Any-salary exceptions - 2009 top 3 draftees:

-The New York Islanders may draft Joe Malone as John Tavares.

-The Tampa Bay Lightning may draft Alex Smith as Victor Hedman.

-The Colorado Avalanche may draft Leo Lamoureux as Matt Duchene.

I'm going to have to re-draft as a result, which may change the league number...If so, I'll let you guys know.

How does that fit the following?

"Pick a team. Create a team based on players that are under contract for the upcoming season (2009-2010) based on www.nhlnumbers.com. Note - the players must actually be under contract (so no buyouts or unsigned RFAs/UFAs). Any year of the player's career works, so we'll see some upgraded Recchi / Guerin types."

Or are you referring to the Minor League simulation players?

The league owner can sitemail WIS and request name changes, they will be sent an excel file to make the changes and then you send it back.

Not all the players from NHL.com match nhlnumbers.com - ie nhl.com has more Capitals listed as roster players, can we use them or is it strictly from nhlnumbers?
9/9/2009 8:51 AM
We'll still use NHLnumbers to select players. NHL.com is a garbage site. If there are any problems (ie, you don't have an option for a prospect), let me know, and we can pick one who we know is coming up through the organization.

So, on NHLnumbers.com, there will be players who have never served a full season, and thus cannot be drafted. I'm allowing you to draft someone else in that person's place, and we'll just change the name with Admin.

Also, not a bad idea, tnuhnai. Feel free to change the name of any scrub on your roster to that of a current player as well.
