What Else Are You Good At? Topic

It depends on who you ask.

If you ask me, I'd say that I was good at anything that requires analytical thinking or brute strength. I also think I'm a good manager and trainer.

If you ask my friends, they'd probably tell you that I'm reliable, funny, and a damn good home brewer and poker player.

If you ask my sons, they'd say I'm good at everything, but that they think I'm best at wrestling with them. At 10 & 7, they're still young enough to believe that.

If you ask my wife what I'm good at, she'd probably say farting, snoring and making a mess in the house.

I'm 55 and can easily look back and second guess many decisions. If life lived could be plotted along a bell curve I would be smack dab in the middle somewhere. My daughter is 29 and raising her would be my single greatest accomplishment...and joy. Everything else is just filler.

That's evident here.

I had mad skills at Mattel Intellivision Baseball. But it ain't the same on the new platforms. You gotta have that crazy 10-key disc touch pad controller to really play that game right.

Wow ... all of you have helped me realize I'm not really good at anything.

I'm great with little kids because I can be silly at the drop of a hat.

I'm good at logical thinking and am a meistro at standardized tests. I teach a GMAT prep course as a hobby.

I have an encyclopedic knowledge of heavy metal, and a multi-thousand album collection to back it up.

Other than that, I'm pretty much a schmuck.

I'm good at not bragging about myself.....

Did I just brag about not bragging?

Been married 19.5 years (must be at least passable at husbanding). Two kids, 16 and 14 (junior and freshman).

The boy (16) is a 3.5 student, played SS/LF for his tournament baseball team.

The girl (14) is a 4.0 student, danced competitively and got one of the leads in the school play.

Neither one of them has been caught or convicted of a misdemeanor or felony (neither have I).

I've won every possible award in Tiger Woods 09 for the Wii, and was on Jeopardy a long long time ago (before you ask, I lost).

Not that I'M bragging, but the highlight of my life is I beat a Jeopardy Grand Champion 0ne-on-one in Trival Pursuit.

If if have played the game you know that often times you get to choose what question you want (Sports, History, Literture, Entertainment, Science). At the end, we were tied having our pies filled and she landed in the middle first. The opponent gets to pick the topic, She sucked at sports, so I picked sports.

I thought I was doomed as I read the question - "Who is only player to score 100 points in a professional basketball game?" Ms. smarty pants Jeopardy Grand Champoin said "Magic Johnson". What a dumbazz.

I got to the circle the next turn andshe picked science and it was a astology question "what astology symbal is represented by a Bull?"

Being a Dad. Have raised 2 1/2 children to successful adulthood. Still have a 14 yr old at home. So I can still screw this one up.

Pistol Shooting. Have always be a good shot with a pistol. I have shot clay pidgens out of the air, a bobcat between the eyes @ 50+ yds and the head off of a coiled rattlesnake with a fastdraw.

No bragging or exaggeration. OK maybe a little bragging. But let me also say that you put a target up and I'm not that good. Reflex shooting or fastdraw, yes very good. Aiming only average. Time and age have also taken a toll on my eyes and reflexes but I think I can still hold my own.

The one thing I am pretty good at is my genealogy hobby. The primary area of my research has been to document the descendants of one set of my Great Great Great Great Grandparents. I have found about 5000 blood desecendants, plus spouses so far. Essentially l find lost cousins. I have a boat load of stories. For instance I could tell the story, the true story, of the boy who was literally eaten by wolf! You might be surprised how extensive on line family trees are. You are probably in someone's on-line tree, someone you have never met and don't know it, though information on the living is generally hidden from an obvious view.

Every now and then I discover someone new, long since dead who literally was totally unknown by anyone still living, anwhere. For a while, I'm the only person on earth who knows so and so ever was alive until I post it online to share. You know how you read about some scientist who discovers a previously unknown species? I know exactly the thrill they feel, except in my case, it has an actual distant cousin, long dead and totally forgotten.

Ever read a newpaper article about your grandfather from 75 years ago? How about finding in the basement of a county courthouse the actual last will and testment of your GGG Grandfather, with his signature?

You'll find some genealogy people on line who are just name collectors with no real focus. They will have 100,000 names in their tree and claim to trace their ancestry to Charlemagne or a 3rd century Norwegian king. They take large data dumps from someone else and just graft them onto their tree. The amount of bad genealogy data out in cyberspace is huge. Instead, I have a narrow niche, a special area of research all sourced and documented and meaningful, at least to me. It's enough for a 500 page book.

I have won oodles of money playing poker for a living, and am an international chessmaster. My background (game theory, econometrics, etc) and personality (analytical, competitive) draw me to games like this. I enjoy playing sports (basketball, football), card games (poker, bridge, Magic), board games (Diplomacy, Axis & Allies, Monopoly) and computer games (anything strategic). I look to improve my skills each day.

I have done quite a few high-detailed plastic models and like to think I'm a pretty good fisherman.
