Is Hanukkah a federal holiday?

The responses in this thread are exactly why it won't happen. It only takes one person to say "Hey, you didn't include my holiday. Why do you hate --insert nationality, race, religion, etc--?" and that's that.

The day after St. Patty's Day needs to be included because us Irish folk are too hungover to play HBD.

This is a dumb idea.

1. Some do not "celebrate" these holidays. A vocal majority may, but there's simply no day on the calendar where WifS can assume every paying customer is "celebrating". Making the list American-centric ignores a significant portion of the customer base. Jingoistic crap.

2. As it stands, there is no "advantage" in the schedule for any cultural sub-group. This would provide an "advantage" for americans who celebrate christmas because THEY are the only ones who care about having December 25th as a "placeholder day". The rest of us can go screw, huh?

3. As way of example, should the site be shut down for Ramadan? Chinese New Year? Yom Kippur? Bastille Day? Guy Fawkes Day? Where's the line? It's simply not acceptable to draw up a list that is convenient for the americans or the christians or the jews or any other cultural sub-set. There's NO FAIR WAY to enact this, none. And if your response is "too bad for them"...well, get an f'ing life. The world doesn't revolve around you.

4. If your commissioner is paying attention, significant events can be scheduled AROUND these holidays. Last season, the Rule 5 draft in one of my leagues was held on Dec 25th. This was accomplished by the commissioner looking at the calendar, understanding the dates, asking the world if it was OK to delay rollover by one day, setting things up so no one had to do anything on Dec 25th if they didn't have the time.

5. Most of the time, all that happens on these holidays is 3 games being simmed. If that is too onerous a schedule, you need to find a new game to play, because that's what should be happening 300 days a year if you play HBD.

What % of the userbase is really affected by this to a degree that would warrant a delay? I have no idea honestly, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was quite low.

Can we get weekends as placeholder days too while we're at it?

I gotta take a dump.

And that's exactly why if they want to do anything of this nature, they have to make the claim that it is because they don't want to pay OT for their workforce to support the game(s) during holidays, thus keeping the costs static.

As soon as they mention users, that's a Pandora's Box you just can't close.

"they don't want to pay OT for their workforce to support the game(s) during holidays"

What about weekends?

miket's dial up isp takes holidays off...

I certainly didn't expect a book from a guy who just a league in mid-season because life got in the way. Not everyone is comfortable just dropping a team because they have a personal conflict.

In short, we know which days are established holidays for an American based company. Most of us like an occassional break without falling behind(I actually enjoy ST because it gives you a break after the hectic pre-season). Building a few breaks into each season doesn't seem like a big deal. To me, established holidays would be a fine time to give users "a day off".

What about weekends?

I'm quite sure that people at your local grocery store don't get OT to work Saturdays.

With these economic times, not bringing people in on certain days seems like a good business practice. Hours are cut, weeks are shortened. In fact, there are a lot of people taking "forced" vacations this week.
