As pointed out in the draft thread, it came to my attention that some of the players in the database were listed twice.....once as a hitter and once as a pitcher.
In most cases, it is a player who maybe was a pitcher in 1885 and a hitter in 1886 or vice versa. In this case, it is no different than any player who had a player season in both years......the owner could choose which player season to use but couldn't use both.
It is also possible that one player could be in the database as both a pitcher and a hitter from the same season. For instance, Abner Powell is in the database as a pitcher and OF'er for 1886. In theory, an owner could draft this player and use him as both a hitter and pitcher. The problem arises from the fact that said player could be in the game simultaneously as a hitter and a pitcher.
Even if the owner made a conscience effort to not start them both at the same time, Sparky could and probably would end up putting them both in at some point. It would be almost impossible to police so I think the best way to handle it is to say that no player can be in the league as a pitcher and hitter during the same year. Once the year is over, if you wish to change them over from a hitter to a pitcher or vice versa, there is no problem with that. Only during the same season.
I'm certainly open to another solution if a better one is presented, but since the draft is underway and any of these players could be potentially drafted before a consensus is reached, I think we need to approach it the way I've explained above or halt the draft immediately and reach a decision before any more players are drafted.
