Trevor, I think you may be creating a problem for yourself. I have no idea if your BPI ranking system is any good. But, the lack of credibility you are building within these forums will carry over into real life. The people playing HD are by and large sports fans who care about stats, rankings, etc. We follow real sports almost as avidly as our fake sports. What do you think we are going to think if you gain some traction outside of this forum and we see your name or BPI? When I read your posts, I get the same feeling I get when I see an embarrassing photo on Facebook. It's just a bad idea. It can be fun debating problems or perceived problems with HD, but the audience for your posts may not be limited to zhawks, dalter, and the rest. You need to keep that in mind. You are creating a reputation for yourself that I don't think you will want to have.
I never wanted things to turn out like this on here, I just never expected the things I said to get people ridiculously riled up in the first place, not just here, but in the other threads where I have posted.

With that said, I can handle anything, especially a few "enemies" on a sports simulation site message board. I'll be making a new reputation starting next week, so we shall see. My biggest problem is that I like a good argument, and sometimes I post things without doing proper research (which isn't the norm for me, but timing is of the essence on these boards). Nobody has been a saint here, but I get all the flak because I most "notable" and I'm fine with that. People want to go ape when I make logical statements and suggest improvements to the game, that's fine, but don't expect me to go quietly into the night just because a couple of guys here think I'm an idiot.

Take care all.

Remember kids: if you don't respond to a post within 10 minutes, the bus will explode.

"Timing is of the essence on these boards." That quite possibly might be the stupidest thing ever posted, anywhere.

Where did the kid from Chicago in Hoop Dreams go? Wasn't it somewhere like Oklahoma or something?

The 2 biggest things that people went ape about were my OTR SOS rankings and my "all wins rate higher than all losses" comment/methodology. Neither "debate" should have blown up like it did but there was blatant angst against both of these statements, which I didn't expect. If you don't like what I do, fine...you want to say I'm illogical/dumb for doing what I'm doing, that's when I'm going to take exception, and I did. I'll most likely be running the OTR SOS thing by EA Sports sometime in the near future.

As far as recruiting goes, I'll bet a great deal of those that , because recruiting was "too tough". I'm merely saying, if you simplify the process, you'd probably have more customers...or if you had D1 only worlds, you'd probably have more customers. WIS likes to have intricate setups, but why not consider the millions that play games like EA Sports NCAA Football/Basketball and the thousands that play here. I honestly thought that HD and GD were going to make me stop playing EA Sports games, and they really haven't come close, especially on the GD side.

Just wanted to bring this up because here's another thing in that in real life, would never happen.

I signed a guy that went to Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, WY. I go to my team page afterwards and find out that his hometown is actually Hopkins, SC, thus why would a guy from South Carolina with substandard grades attend a CC in Wyoming?

I know this has no bearing on anything, but it caught my eye and I laughed.

wrong.

i randomly thought of a juco/community college that i think of as having a solid basketball program - san jacinto, in texas

their roster includes players from:

nevada, pennsylvania, new zealand, minnesota, puerto rico, minnesota, new jersey, croatia, and texas

colonels, its not what you say, its how you say it. i mean, we are going to disagree with you for making ridiculous claims regardless of how you say them. but all the flak you take, as you call it, is because of how you say things. like suggesting everybody is ignorant for not understanding a suggestion you make when it is really quite simple. the sooner you realize its not what you say, its how you say it, the better it will be for everyone.

The attitude has worked both ways here. I'll admit I have a bit of a naturally sarcastic tone, and I need to straighten up a bit (or at least do more research on topics like these so I can be right more often lol) but generally, you guys have spouted attitude as well, thus its gone both ways. I was flat wrong here, it was a serious brain fart....mea culpa. I'm sure I'll try again soon lol, take care...thanks for accepting my exhib request fwiw.....

No, it goes far beyond merely "sarcastic"; lots and lots of people here are sarcastic and don't draw the ire of the masses. It's the fact that you attempt to talk down to everyone as though you're above us, which is both absurd and insulting.

And you also need to be more aware of the cause-and-effect here. Did some people come at you? Yes they did. But it was because you acted like a jerk first (as billyg said ... whether you realize it or not).

But your know-it-all delivery and tone (particularly about something you don't know very much about) invite ad hominem attacks, and that's bad for the forum and certainly bad for whatever message you're attempting to get across.

I've been civil with people that are civil with me, and I've slammed with those that have wanted to slam. In the end, you get what you ask for out of me, I'm a rather complex person that aims to please. A lot of you seem to confuse your responses to me with martyrdom and as long as you're telling the "know-it-all" (That's not the case) that he's "wrong", you're doing right and are somehow better than me and the argument at hand...something that you claim I'm doing. There's blood on all of our hands here, don't act like their isn't.

That's part of the problem: You think you're only being a smarmy, know-it-all towards certain people, and only when they provoke you first. Sorry, but that's just totally removed from the reality of how it's gone down. Perhaps it's because you don't realize how you're coming across, but it's simply not true.

(Not trying to completely absolve myself or anyone else, but make no mistake: You are the instigator here, the driving force that people are responding to.)
1/17/2010 9:06 AM
I don't think I'm being a smarmy, know-it-all to anyone...this is stuff we learned (were supposed to learn) in kindergarten....treat people the way you want to be treated. You guys want to fight, that's fine. I've made civil posts elsewhere that guys like you and zhawks blew up at, and off we went because YOU GUYS blew a nut and said "WTF is this guy talking about".

Am I the "instigator" here, probably...everywhere/the majority of the time? Not even close.

Just by making that crack -- "this is stuff we learned (were supposed to learn) in kindergarten" -- that is the definition of coming across as a smarmy know-it-all.

This is the ultimate example that you simply don't have the self awareness to understand how you are coming across. In the very same sentence where you say, "I don't think I'm being a smarmy know-it-all" ... you are being a smarmy, know-it-all!

Seriously man, that's incredible.

I'm well aware of what I say and how I say it...maybe that's the exact response I was seeking...ever think of that?

Also, what have you necessarily done to earn my decency? I know I haven't earned yours, but what have you done except be an ***?
