timf, you just don't seem to be getting it. Picking up a team for free midseason does not give you the same entitlements as you would get if you purchase an open team at world rollover.

It's like buying a new car with a warranty versus buying a used car off the lot as-is.

Your midseason pickup is the used-car. You got the team for free, you get the budget that comes along with it. It's unfortunate that you didn't realize that when you picked the team up. You know it now. And best of all (for you), it hasn't cost you a penny.

OK tec you've made your point. I have to create an alias to get the budgets reset. It just seems stupid to have to do this.
1/19/2010 9:52 PM
Some people like to keep the budgets. Your team just happened to have the budget moving in the "wrong" direction. If you got 16m in IFA scouting, would you demand that it get reset to 10m?

The international FA market is too expensive anyway. You'd be better signing a bunch of Type B free agents to one year contracts, once they get cheap enough, and hope to get sandwich round talent that you don't have to negotiate with others for. Plus, you make your ML team better.

I don't think that tim cares about the free half season. He's not doing himself a favor by picking up this team. He's doing the commish and the world in question a favor by taking on the project. He could have waited for the team to come available at rollover, but he took over the team right away. By picking up a trash heap, you mar your record, and you restrict your ability to reset budgets upon rollover. It seems like when you take over a team mid season, there is a strong disincentive to keep the team if the budgets are facked up. I think that admin should be able to tell when someone picks up an alias just to reset their budgets (same IP adress)

You play a partial season for free, get to determine if you like the team/world and get a piddly participation credit. Picking up an abandoned team isn't all bad.

Seems tim let discretion be the better part of valor when he was asked if he'd demand a budget reset if his IFA were at 16.

Yeah, people driving down a deserted road often forget it's a two-way street.

I'm not demanding anything. All I'm trying to say is it makes no sense to reset the budgets for a new owner coming in at the beginning of a season but not allowing an owner coming in midseason to have the same luxury at the start of the next season.
1/20/2010 8:20 AM
But didn't you have the "luxury" of making trades, waiver claims, etc. that a new owner would not have had?

If you wanna dance, you gotta pay the band.
1/20/2010 8:21 AM
But you wouldn't want your budgets reset if they were how you liked them, right?

I'm asking because, as a commish, I often have owners request taking over a team before we roll so they can save the budgets.

I followed it just fine. In fact, I read all kinds of things I don't comment on.

You didn't pay for your first season, and now you're complaining about the one drawback.

Suck it up.

I do agree with this sentiment. I am a commish too, and I have had to find a replacement for a trash-heap. It just seemed to me at the time that the guy taking over said team was doing us a favor. Had I known that he couldn't reset the budgets in the rollover, I might have let simmy finish the season, and found a new owner then. My opinion is that it would have been better for the world if the team drafting first overall has draft scouting budgets better than 6 and 7.

I encouraged the new owner to write a ticket over the issue, and I wrote one as well in support, but no go. I doubt that tim will get any consideration from admin over this.
1/20/2010 9:04 AM
It's an easy to solve problem. IF the incoming owner wants to reset the budget, create an alias to transfer the team to before rollover. Then let the owner sign up and have the team back, with reset budgets, at rollover.

Do it above board and I don't think anyone in your world would object or be forced to wonder why shobobsbuddy ran a team for one season(since it would show on your saved standings).
