Yeah Koufax.

Remember the Triples era we had in HBD? That might get some guys in who otherwise wouldn't.

Question is about Hall Of Fame

What decides if a player is a middle reliever, short reliever, or starter? Is it the sim? I have a player the sim would consider a starter who is my closer, is the sim going to consider him a starter?

What about a player who has multiple roles during his career? What if a pitcher starts the first half of his career and then closes the second half of his career? Or a player whose role is middle reliever for the first 5 to 6 seasons, then becomes a free agent then spends the next 6 to 7 seasons as a closer.

James,

The qualifications are clearly outlined in the HBD update thread please review them if something remains unclear.

For starters and long relievers it is 125IP/season and for relievers it is 50G/season. We lowered the requirements to account for players that have had multiple roles throughout their career. Of course the player must be retired and he must have accumulated 10+ ML years.

I did not ask about qualifications! Your answer had nothing to do with my question.

5 allstar games - 3 as a starter 2 as a closer

1 Fireman award

29 in 1st season

record 126-60

95 save out of 109 opportunities

yes or no

You didn't point out his best numbers - the 2.29 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, and he didn't post an ERA over 3 until his last season

In season 7 he put up a 1.45 ERA in 211 innings, that's insane!

How did he not win the Cy Young that year?

Hall of Fame? Absolutely

The crazy thing is I don't think he's even eligible for nomination, only 8 seasons as a starter, doesn't hit any of the statistical milestones and doesn't hit any of the awards benchmarks (AS appearances, Cy Youngs
good call Schuyler - he is NOT on the nomination list -

In the 45+ games per season is hat average or does he need at least 10 seasons of 45 games?

I have a player who has twice finished in the top 3 for he Cy Young who might not be eligible. His most recent season he was up for the Cy Young but didn't even get an All-Star nod.

wow, that has to be one of the most under-utilized player of all time...he should be pitching a minimum of 100 innings/year, if not 120 or more

Not sure how to get him in more. I have him set as the only closer. This season I moved him to being available in the 8th and 9th inning to get more games out of him. How else can I get him in more?

I strongly disagree with this statement. For example, http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=999070 in seasons 9, 10, and 11 he had at most 45.1 IP and my records were as follows:

Season 9: 125-37
Season 10: 110-52
Season 11: 109-53

And all 3 seasons I made the WS.

http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=918567 only had 1 season between seasons 6 and 10 with over 50 IP (and that was the one season he was removed as my closer), my record over those seasons:

Season 6: 80-82
Season 7: 100-62
Season 8: 90-72
Season 9: 105-57
Season 10: 100-62

And in season 11 I am 15-5 thus far and he has yet to have a save opp.

I could continue but hopefully you get my point...

is your point that despite the fact you didn't maximize your relief ace's innings, you still had success?

i think it's that you can have a great team with a closer that doesn't get into very many games...so telling the guy to improve his team instead of worrying about getting into the hall of fame is kind of silly...
