There are no guidelines in the league. That is problem #1. The commish that started the league and all hell broke loose after that.

And this is another reason you could argue that a commish should do what's best for his team.

He gets the blame for the ills of the world even if he's just doing what the world "wants".

find a new world.

I am just fixing up a neglected team. I am not a long term owner. This isn't really meant to be about that one league anyway, just a general discussion.

That's a world problem not a commish problem.

A commish has two very separate roles. One is to be an owner just like the 31 others and do his best to win the championship. The other is to be commish. They are separate and distinct and a good commish should not let them overlap.

A bad commish will do something like this: enact a ruleof no franchise relocation, decide he cant win in his current city, and then change the rule so he can move. That's mixing your two hats up.

A good commish will stick with the league rules and will not change them. People joined his league for the rules that were put in place, not to have the rules pulled out form under them. Yes, there wil be times when rules need tochange, but a good commish will make certain any changes are discussed at length and maybe even voted on.

A good commish also will not put his own team above theleague when doing commish duties. Example: turning down a top owner because the open team is in his division and adding a newbie that he can dominate instead. that is bad for the league.

All that being said, being a commish does not take very much extra effort. Other than around rollover time when you have to recruit...and hopefully the rest of the league understands that recruiting is even a job for the entire world to help with. Don't just sit back and think one person who is in 3 or 4 worlds can magically make half a dozen new owners appear.

Perfectly put

when you quit a world because you dont agree with the standards, there's no blame. it's just a matter of wanting different standards.

I still think that the good commishes do more than just enforce league rules though. Most leagues don't have many rules beyond what WIS already has factored in. They need to define league character.

For example, most worlds would generally be against no unbalanced trades. If an owner in a world points out what he thinks to be an unbalanced trade to a commish .....what's his role then?

Does the commish make a point to ask everyone to consider the trade, take a second look...in case it was glossed over in the veto process? Or, is that considered campaigning against the trade?

Not sure. I'm guessing around 10

If there's a suspect trade, the commish role is no different than the owner's role. Point it out if it bothers you. There is no Commissioner Chat. It's World Chat.

One thing that should remain constant in all private worlds, whether they have "rules" or not: recruiting for new owners at season rollover, or filling mid-season replacements when the need arises.

That's what I feel as well.. I didn't become a commish to help everyone else win while I just sit there with a **** team.. Follow the rules you enforce ..

One thing I want to add to this.. The hardest part about being a commish is even after you screen owners you still end up with that one dipshit that don't want to follow the rules of the world and when you go to replace them Admin don't do anything about it.. Makes it not even worth being a commish if you can't even run your own world..
