I don't know that they "clearly" deserved a one seed. WVU was at least debatable, no?

interesting stuff jslot.

i am a cornell employee and seasonticket holder and was a bit diassappointed that they were a 12. i guess i was hoping for an 11, some folks said they thought cornell could have been a 10.... im sorry, i just dont see that. i looooove cornell, but their best win was StJohns, who didnt even sniff the bigdance. in our favor, our nonconf was like a travelling road show, but the alabamas and the st johns and the umass, etc (all of whom we beat) just werent as impressive as they might have been. of course we played syracuse tough at the dome and kansas REAL TOUGH in lawrence, but in the end those are stilll loses. Anyways, like i said, i would have liked an 11, but 12 is okay.

soooo, who , other than js, knows the lowdown on temple? do they play a suffocating m2m? can they shutdwon the perimeter? based on the stats it looks like YES. i think opponents shoot 28% form deep. and it looks like they have big gaurds (we like to start, essentially two PGs who are maybe 6 feet tall, and one is a white boy who doesnt add a whole lot of vertical to that 6 feet. )

I was actually hoping for Temple (as opposed to some of the big conference options like Teaxas A&M), but the knowitalls on tv seem to think that temple is even better than thier 5seed.

anyways, please post some scouting info on the owls if any of you have seen alot of them this year.

I think a 5 seed is about right for Temple based on the numbers. I just would have a hard time seeing them seeded ahead of any of the teams that got a 4. They're an extremely good defensive team, that's their strength. Offensively they're probably a bit below average for a tourney team.

They play a 3-guard offense, and their two best players are guards, Juan Fernandez and Brooks (just can't remember is first name right now). Fernandez is a really good 3pt shooter. They beat Nova and lost by 1 @ Georgetown.

Cornell actually has a better adjusted scoring margin than Temple, and I think that bodes well for them keeping the game close.

Hoping that New Mexico can make it to the S16 to play against WVU. That would be a great game.

Also wondering if New Mexico State has a shot against Michigan State. I think they might, if they can play the way they did in the WAC Championship Game.

Marquette is a bad matchup for UNM. Guard play is the neutralizing factor vs UNM
3/14/2010 9:23 PM
I think UNM was overseeded, and they're vulnerable.

And bscoresby, I think BYU was underseeded. I like them a lot vs. Florida.

I think this tournament is absolutely filled with mediocrity.

History definately against BYU. I was like 12 the last time they won

My guess is a lot of people haven't seen a lot of UNM (or any of the Mountain West teams, really). Even at 3 seed, they might take some people by surprise.
3/14/2010 10:56 PM
I've seen a ton of UNM. They would get past the first team that has a great defensive guard. The whole team is based on Dariese Gary driving, and dishing, then Hobson cleaning up rebound.

Marquette spells disaster for them.

Utah St and Cal have a combined 1 top 50 RPI win between them. Very surprised freakin Utah St got in over teams like Illinois, Miss St or Va Tech

Miss St should not be in either, nor should Florida (who did they beat ? ) With your logic as well you would say that Illinois should have been in over Minnesota as well.

Illinois stinks. They would have set all sorts of records for worst ever at-large RPI in the tournament.

I'd much rather have seen a team like William and Mary get in the tournament than another 14-loss suckbag from a major conference.
