Northern Iowa for the simple fact I had never heard of them before this year. When a school comes out of NOWHERE to bust almost half the brackets in the country (and Canada, too!)how can you not go all out behind them?
Northern Iowa has been in the Dance 5 times in the last 10 years but this is the first time they've won a game. So it's understandable they were overlooked. It's also the first time since 1979 that a Missouri Valley team has made the Sweet 16. That's surprising since that conference has had some very good teams recently, like Drake last year

I was such a big Missouri fan back in the day. Makes me sad to think of this day.

I think they have a real shot to get to the Elite 8 where I will abruptly stop rooting for them (obviously lol).

Cornell is fun to watch too. It seems like very shot they put up is a 3 and they were clearly better than Temple and Wisconsin. I think they are gonna give Kentucky a real game and if they beat them I will forever worship them

I would have to look it up to be sure, but i think there are quite a few teams that shoot more threes than the Big Red. We shoot it well, and I guess we do shoot a fair number of treys, but i dont think its any where near "every shot they put up.

inot trying to start an argument, just trying to set the record straight

i would be shocked if anyhting less than 75% of the crowd is rooting for Cornell. not that all those will be Cornellians. but, think about it, the folks who have no ties to either Kentucky or Cornell are going to tend to root for the underdog.. .right?. and the UWV and Washington fans are surely going to see Cornell win.

Somehow I knew someone was going to say something about that. I said it seems like they do, not that they actually do.

The only true "no scholarship" conference is the Patriot League.

i have to admit you are mostly correct my friend. i guess i was hoping for a few sympathy votes. but, you are pretty much correct.

the only rebuttal i will offer is that its not usually academic scholarships, but need-based grants. (at least at Cornell) So players from low income homes are able to get these grants,... and those from high income homes (Wittman for instance) really dont need the help. But i would argue that the mid-income kids might not allways get a free ride which could affect thier decision to attend Cornell.

It is my understanding that Harvard, Yale, Princeton have gotten really aggressive with thier "need based aid" school-wide and so it may be that most or all of thier hoops players have a free ride.

Cornell is a IVY league school, kentucky will buy the $10 tickets Cornell will get the court side $100+ tickets
the cheapest ticket you can find is $100+.

Each school gets 500 really good seats that they can distribute to thier fans.

higher seeds (UWV and Kentucky) get 500 seats directly behind the players. (thats where the student section normally is in the CarrierDome) the two weaker seeds (Cornell and Wash) get 500 tix directly across from the players.

Schools can request additional tix and Cornell did request 750 extra and got them... i think the are behind the basket on floor level.. but im not totally sure.

Cornell is having a lottery for these 1,250 tickets. The price is $160 for the 3game set.

But I guess the rest of the dome is already sold out? anyways, stubhub is selling nosebleed seats for $119 plus taxes, etc. same seats were going for $69 at halftime of the Cornell/wisconsin game and $98 this morning (those prices are for thursdays game only)

Also OD, I thinks its pretty awesome that you are actually a Cornell fan and they are having a breakout year like this. Must be a pretty great experience.
3/22/2010 9:54 PM
hmmm, 10k seats ?

i dont doubt it, but i wonder why the prices of the nosebleed seats is skyrocketing on stubhub?

anyone know where you get the tix from originally? Carrierdome?

i think they sit 50K for football. I think 34K or so is the record for hoops... and that prolly includes a few questionable seats.

seats originate through ticketmaster, but you must buy the original tickets in a 3 game pack for $148 plus tax, etc.

And the best available seats are fairly questionable. top level, 20 rows up, and prolly out about the 30-40yard line or so. (the court is in the end zone.. or close to it. if that makes any sense

beating Temple was one of the happiest moments of my "life as a sportsfan" even topping all the Yanks World Series, even topping my Tark-Cuse NC or my Oneotna-Iba NCs .... topping the glory days in the late 80s and 90s for TexasAggie Football.... topping all the days i spent rooting for Tom Landry's Cowboys in the 70's. and topping the cuse national championship with melo and mcnamara (though that was pretty close i guess)

So if temple was the greaaratest moment ever for me... can you imagine my feelings as we throttled wisc? obviously.. a new greatest moment.

and , you know what, i hate to be a "moral victory" guy... especially when the game hasnt even happened yet. but i think if cornell were able to play well and make a game of it... even if they lost... that might become my new "greatest sportsfan moment ever" (especially since I will be there)

(footnote: if the yanks had beaten the dbacks in 2001, then that would be hard to beat . even in the losing effort, that one has to rank right up there for me)
