Answer: Because my dog can't sue anybody.
Answer- because your vet has one third of the training as your surgeon, and thus his time/skill costs 1/3 as much, and he uses cheaper/less reliable supplies. Also because you care about the cost of your vet bill (you pay it) and not your surgery bill (you pay a fixed co-pay and the insurance company picks up all the variable costs) so your vet has an incentive to make the price attractive. Doctors never think about how to price their services in order to attract customers.
