Colorado's Jeff Bzdelik has called a team meeting this afternoon, presumably announce that's he leaving for Wake Forest.

The top contender for the Colorado job is his assistant, Steve McClain. McClain was 2-2 this season when Bzdelik was away on a personal matter. McClain also coached Wyoming from 1998-2007

Clemson is holding a 4 p.m. new conference and is expected to introduce Brad Brownell as their new coach. He coached Wright St.

This is a great post allblack. Glad you took the time to do this!

I'd sort of like to see Billy G end up in Oregon. Still disappointed that Ernie Kent was fired.

Great hire at UCF. Donnie Jones is a great ball coach, and that campus is ever-growing. Beautiful new on-campus arena, and that side of the school is beautiful.

They'll rise and be at the top of the CUSA very soon.

Wright State wasted no time in finding a coach. After Brad Brownell for Clemson, asst. coach Billy Donlon was promoted to head coach at Wright ST.

Hartford's Dan Leibovitz resigned to accept the assistant job at his alma mater, Penn, under new coach Jerome Allen.

I've updated the coaching changes on page #1

I wish UWGB had done the same thing, final interviews are today, expect an announcement either tonight or tommorrow. 5 were brought in for final interviews, assistant coach wardle might be the front runner, but I think 3 or 4 are in serious contention.

Excerpts from the 'Statesman-Journal' in Oregon:

It's been 28 days since former Oregon basketball coach Ernie Kent was officially fired and there's no sign of a replacement..........

The spring signing period begins today and extends through May 19. The Ducks have two scholarships available and coming off back-to-back non-winning seasons, they could use an influx of talent. But without a head coach, time is not on Oregon's side in the recruiting process.
Former Oregon athletic director Pat Kilkenny is leading the coaching search. " I"f it takes a week or two weeks or three weeks or four weeks to find the best guy that will take the job, then that's what he'll do."

The operative words here are "the best guy that will take the job." Coaches that were reportedly on Oregon's wish list, such as Butler's Brad Stevens, Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon, Texas A&M's Mark Turgeon, and New Mexico's Steve Alford, have received lucrative contract extensions.

Tubby Smith, another high-profile coach linked to Oregon, told the St. Paul Pioneer Press recently that he hasn't been contacted by the Ducks or anyone else and was happy at Minnesota.

The time has arrived for the Ducks to consider a second-tier of candidates, which figures to include Randy Bennett of Saint Mary's.

After last season, the average time it took to secure a new coach was 12 days.

These schools have surpassed that mark this season:

Dartmouth- vacant since Jan. 15*

NC-Wilmington- Jan. 28*

Gardner-Webb- March 5

Oregon- March 15

Howard- March 22

Wisc-Green Bay- March 30

Holy Cross- March 31

* In fairness to Dartmouth and Wilmington, they fired their coaches in mid-season and replaced them with interims. Most coaches won't discuss a new job until the season is completed.

And, even more criticism of Oregon, this time from the San Jose Mercury:

UC- Irvine’s decision to hire Russell Turner, ex of Stanford and the Warriors (as of tomorrow morning), was not only a shrewd move.....but It also served as a contrast to Oregon’s misguided, bungled, embarrassing search to replace Ernie Kent.

The Ducks have known for nearly a month that Kent was done and are starting over after being turned down by Brad Stevens, who everybody save Phil Knight and Pat Kilkenny knew was going to show the Ducks the back of his hand.

Even worse: The Ducks have had a pretty good idea since last spring that they might need a coach, and yet they’re staggering like Kent just upped and walked away yesterday.

Irvine was in a similar position in that it seemed pretty clear months ago that Pat Douglass wasn’t coming back.

And how did UCI respond? Athletic director Mike Izzi identified his target, Turner, early and made it happen......What Izzi did not do was hire the biggest “name” he could find.... Instead, Izzi went with the man he felt was the right fit.

That approach stands in stark contrast to Oregon, where it’s embarrassingly (for the Ducks) obvious that Kilkenny has no clue:

How the Oregon job was viewed nationally.
Who might be interested.
Who he could get.
The best fit.

This might comes as a shock to Oregon fans, especially the most deluded among them, but it’s not considered one of the five or six best jobs in the Pac-10.

But if this works out for the Ducks, it will indeed be luck. Because it’s 10,216% clear that Kilkenny and the folks at Stuart have no idea what they’re doing.

Interesting...you think that one of the Duke assistants will take NC-Wilmington if nothing better turns up?

I doubt it. They offered the job to Citadel's Ed Conroy but he took Tulane instead. They've also talked to Jerry Dunn (asst. at Michigan who led Penn St. to two NCAAs); Dave Odum (former coach at Wake Forest and So. Carolina); and Mike Lonegran of Vermont.

Losing Conroy seems to have them befuddled and they're floundering right now.

Word on the street is that OR may be one of the 5 finalists.

Supposedly, what plays in his favor is that his contract would only call for 5,000 reward points for each win.

He also promises to warn recruits about redshirting ahead of time and, if they get upset, renege and reoffer repeatedly until he wears them down.

He has an interesting practice philosophy, too. If, before a center graduates, OR decides that his rebounding will never improve, he'll spend extra practice time teaching him to dribble and pass.

As a Houston fan/grad, I can assure that that isn't even remotely close to the truth. The administration absolutely wanted Penders to stay.
