Yes Gehrig was offered the chance to turn private.

To the best of my knowledge, six public worlds were offered the option of going private. Gehrig was one of them. Maris was not.

Yeah...I'm not sure what standards they used to finally allow public worlds to go private. 2 seasons ago, I'm positive Maris would have met any reasonable standards. Since then, there is no way it would.

I'm glad to see WIS salvage some of the strong public worlds by finally letting them switch. I'm just sad it's too little, too late for Maris.

World Rickey, as kneeneighbor has mentioned, was started as a way to get a large groupof Live players into Hardball Dynasty. There will be some longtime, dependable players getting their first taste of HBD. In the long run, that would be a good thing for established leagues looking to fill openings. At least a few of these new owners are sure to become as addicted to HBD as they are to SimLeague Live, and will want more than just one team.

I would certainly be willing to bet money that admin does not allow as many as 3 new Worlds in the next 3 months (excluding Rickey which I joined). I also signed up for the other new world just on the slim chance it will be approved, but I'm fairly sure they have not asked for approval and doubt very much they will get it anytime soon.

Admin rightly is being very cautious. Several months ago Worlds I was in were taking several weeks to fill, recently it has been much better. I don't think admin. will risk getting back into the situation where they had to contract or merge Worls, which really ticked off some customers.

If they end it with these 4 new worlds that is fine but that already is not possible since it is actually 5 new worlds. Nevertheless, the main problem is if they keep letting this happen. Like I said initially, a handful of new worlds each YEAR would not be a huge problem but a handful every couple months is. At this pace, HBD is heading into another dark period.

We haven't even come close to a "every couple of months" point! History, which is real, says that 5 worlds have been created in the last 1.5 years. At the REAL pace, 10 worlds every 3 years is more apt to your point.

Say what? That's a nice little abuse of statistics, Kid.

"Doctor, I've coughed up blood 5 times in the past 2 months"

"Doctor, I've coughed up blood 5 times in my life"

Assuming both are accurate, which is more relevant?

Thank you death. That is exactly what I am saying. All that is relevant is what has happened over the past 2 months. In the year prior to those 2 months nothing happened. The trend is now and the trend is something to worry about.

"Oh no! The stock market dropped 100 points yesterday and 100 points today!! Never mind that it rose 1000 points over the past year, it will be at zero in a matter of months!!! Sell everything now!!!!"

Common sense says there will be a balance struck between 10 months of no new leagues and a couple of months of new leagues. Had we not been trying to get a new world formed for six months, I'd bet WIS would have made us wait another month or two.

Shhhh, this is how the great depression started.

Being as how you are relatively new to HBD, you might not remember or even be aware of what happened about a year or 2 ago. It was pretty bad and really affected this game in a negative manner.
6/9/2010 9:38 PM
I am aware of it, and don't doubt that it was a problem. I also understand that there are drawbacks to getting a team in a new world. But those of us who have never experienced being in a world from the start should have a chance to do that. The requirement that 8 owners in the new worlds have to be new to HBD should affect the game in a positive manner.

And specifically, I was just responding to the idea that only recent trends are valid in trying to predict the future. Expecting that WIS will continue to approve several new worlds each month for the next year is like expecting 120 HR out of a player because he hit 3 in your first four games.

Sportsboy- I am one of the 8 owners that are new to hbd and are in league rickey which is starting with LIVE guys. I would have never gotten into hbd if it were not with guys i know, trust, and talk to everyday.

With that said, im one of the guys josh mentioned. I have already become addicted by just researching threads for new owners. I want to join another league other than rickey, but I can't do so right now b/c I have to be one of the 8 new owners for this league to start.

That's a ridiculous comparison. How about I've worked late 5 times in the past 1.5 year and I've worked late 4 times in the last two months. A sample over 1.5 years vs 2 months is statistically more relevant.

I'm just saying it's a lot of new worlds in a very short period of time while there are a lot of worlds that will be opening up very soon. Many people can still get into the same worlds together as in most cases worlds need multiple new teams.

A trend is a trend regardless of when it started or ended. More weight should be put on 7 teams in 1.5 years plus 2 months than 2 months of data (4 teams)
