I dont like that ash and I seem to be looking for the same kind of player and that he picks ahead of me - I need a little more usage than he does I think so we may diverge but he's lamenting both Landsberger and Dampier so well... at least katernberg doesnt need a PF - I think I kind of choked when I picked Kobe - there are only 2 or 3 SGs worth that high a second - not sure he's one - I'd much rather be waiting around on a guard pick right now and have stacked like Mutombo and Jerry Lucas or some such - I really puzzled that one out too, he was there
Hakeem, Vince, Jamison - I don't need more usage.  I need boards.
6/29/2010 10:31 PM
that's what Im saying - Cornbread is only 19 usg - I need someone around 20 but I could also use just a little more oomph on the boards myself so we're in the same neighborhood
6/29/2010 11:24 PM
oh I read that backwards.  My bad.  I'm probably going to send you my proxy in case kat drafts b4 I check back in.  I'm only sending one since we're so close to the turn... but I'll be checking back in when the am games are played.

I cannot believe guys like Erick Dampier, Joel Przybilla, and Mark Landsberger have become hot commodities.  Next thing you know, we'll see the resurrection of guys like R**** A*****, K**** J****, and S*** J******.
And thus the reason you should be worried about boards.
I know they're good sim players because of the boards, but my disbelief lies in the fact that these guys are slipping into the 5th round. I would've taken any of the three if they were available when my 6th rounders came up.

With Thurmond, Robbins, Mason, and Marion, I'll hold my own on the boards. It's everywhere else that we'll be killed.
6/30/2010 3:30 PM
my original draft plan included przy as a sixth rounder as well. Not sure if his play warrants a fifth round selection.
6/30/2010 3:57 PM
Robbins helps tremendously.  You'll probably be within 2 boards a game (+ or -) of your opponent.  If you've got better efficiency, that's enough.  Problem with most of the high rebound teams in this league is the tremendous number of personal fouls they draft to get them (my team takes a bow... Hakeem, Ray & Evans?  With Powe off the bench?  Don't forget VC.  I'm going to lose 30+ games for the personal foul trouble alone).

Alright here we go

Mutombo - boards and blocks without the usual fouls alot of efg and ftas which is good for the ts% big D is big D
Kobe - volume volume volume decent efg better ts% covers alot of ground in terms of boards and dimes for his position - another 90 defender
Cornbread - 60 efg + 700 ftas = lots of ts% good not great boards on both ends of the floor 85 D - a little fouly and  careless with the ball more than I usually like
Brandon - a little shy on the minutes but otherwise I see him as pretty elite as a PG - 81 D
The Whopper - I think someone that looks alot like me used to use him a few generations ago - like I said 12/25 plus I needed that 21 usg at 52% aint bad
Big Al - Im using his last season in boston - board monster with 20+usg and good efg
Rocket Rod - what I wanted was Brandon but able to play both guard positions, just about got him

my team has more fouls and TOs than I usually like but that hasnt been helping me too much recently so maybe I've been putting too much faith in those stats - more concerning Im a trifle light on 3pas

1. 72-73 Artis Gilmore - will own the paint for me for 42 mins game.....12/28 reb%....56%fg/71pnt....4.2blk%....94 d...some steals and assists too....decent amount of fts

2. 05-06 Chauncey Billups - for me the 3rd best pg behind magic and paul(i count big o as a sg)....the 3s and ftas are amazing, plays solid d, and doesnt turn it over much

3. 95-96 Anfernee Hardaway - really wanted porter with this pick...penny is ok though...gets to the line..shoots over 50 from the field..great ast% for a 2 guard..63 d is weak but gets steals

4. 08-09 Danny Granger - he had to much value to pass up even though i needed forwards here...tons of fts and 3s....good d...gets blocks too...boards a little..possible 6th man of the year

5. 03-04 Erick Dampier - wanted junkyard but was happy to get damp....good fg%...plays d and blocks shots...and of course hes a board monster 15.6/24.4

6. 87-88 Roy Tarpley - ive always been scared of him because of the fouls but i decided the rest was too good to passs up...16/26 reb%...50%fg  paint scorer...fts...blocks....steals...great d

7. 05-06 Lamar Odom - i originally planned on using a combo of two insanely good defensive sfs who havent been drafted yet but decided id rather have lamar and his great ast%

this is my favorite team that ive drafted in wis....im feeling real good about their chances.....not many holes at all on this team...maybe too many fouls but ill still have the advantage at the line since i should be in the top 5 in ftas....95,94,84,82,80,77,63 isnt great d for 52mil but all the steals and blocks should help with that...all of my draft teams so far in my wis career have either just missed the playoffs or disappointed in the first round...im thinking this could be the one that finally delivers a deep run
6/30/2010 10:42 PM

1. 02-03 Tracey McGrady - Pretty obvious hes my scorer plus he has 18% assit and very low TOV% and fouls.  But agree with Ash he is not 1st round worthy in a $52m league.  It was a rush pick, wasn't thinking after dh took Artis Gilmore

2. 73-74 Bob McAdoo - My second and very efficent scorer, was deciding between him and Tim Duncan.  Efficentcy in scoring was the difference. eFG of 55% and gets to the line and shoots 79%

3. 70-71 Tom Boerwinkle - What can I say about him?  12.7/32.1 reb% with a 19.1 ast%.  Only drawback is fouls 5.6 per 48min.  So really tried to limit fouls this point forward

4. 03-04 Donyell Marshall - My 3rd option scorer with 19.7 usg%.  So I think he'll outperform his 14 ppg.  Plus getting 7.5/21.9 reb% with over 300 3pa at the small forward is awesome

5. 97-98 Charlie Ward - Part of my attempt to make up for the McGrady pick 93 def vs. PG 92 def vs.SG. Plus 27.9 assist%, 3 stl% and 53% eFG.  The TOV% is a little high but think that gets a little skewed in lower minute players.  Plus his backups with have very low TOV%

6. 94-95 Cedric Ceballos - My scorer off the bench at 26.5% usg at 53.8% eFG.  Plus very good rounding at the 2 and 3.  8.7/15.4 reb%.  Very low TOV% and fouls

7. 04-05 Drew Gooden- Wanted a little more scoring than rebounding becuase 3 of my starters are under 20 usg.  But can't have too much usage, so he fits nicely. 18% usg with 12.3/22.1 reb% which is still good. Again low TOV% and relaitively low fouls

I like this team, its got it all with ALOT of rebounding.  Only issue I may have is T-Macs defence IMO

well, since i've got nothing to do for 45 mins... i'll postulate on yet another team breakdown report that is as useful as big waves in the gulf

DAVID ROBINSON - i'm gonna use his big board season (90-91). getting the admiral at no. 10 in a 52 mil league was a bargain i think. 94 def
TIM DUNCAN - if i use the 02-03 version, duncan gives me better board %'s and a 28.1 usg%. blks, asts and points help too. also, 94 def
MOOKIE BLAYLOCK - love his 96-97 season. 221-3's, 52% perimeter. steals. 450+ dimes. rebs pretty good with 100+ orebs. i like his 89 def
KIRK HINRICH - like having another mookie on the floor with better ast%. fouls a bit but good tov%. excellent from the arc and i like his 80 def
BOBBY JONES: i like the feel of this team with jones at the sf. low maintenance guy with great efg%. gets to the line some and blks. oh, 80 def

i think with a sparkplug off the bench (24 usg%) and a 10% oreb guy to back up the twin towers, this will be a competitive team that'll make the playoffs. if mookie hits 3's like he did in the last league, it should gell a bit. def and low pf's and to's should win a few games. i don't think there's a rebounding problem since bobby jones nets 200+ orebs at the no.3. 800 blks will be fun to track and watching how the sim plays the twin towers.

Tim Duncan at #39 was the steal of the draft, IMO.
7/1/2010 3:34 PM
My team:

Gary Payton - big stats from a PG. Never used him before.

Shawn Marion - maybe the best PF season in the last 10 years. Very efficient yet effective.

Nate Thurmond - big boards, big blocks, but putrid FG%. I planned on going with a higher-minute season until I landed Robbins in the later rounds. I think I'll go with the 2,200 minute Thurmond, starting and playing 26 mpg.

Anthony Mason - very comparable - perhaps too much so - to Marion. Nice blend of boards and assists from the SF slot.

Alvin Robertson - he was about 6th or 7th on my list of desired starting SGs at this spot. I am hoping the ridiculous steals make up for the high TOs and PFs. I really wish I could've grabbed a higher eFG% guy here, but alas.

Red Robbins - he will occupy the rest of the frontcourt minutes in my 4-man, 3-position rotations. Lots of boards, and he won't kill us anywhere else.

Fred Hoiberg - my wife makes a killer hamburger casserole, and she got the recipe from our good friend from IU, who got it directly from Fred Hoiberg's mom. True story. Beyond that, his eFG% is quite nice for my backup SG.

I need about 400 minutes behind GP at the point, and I've got around $2MM to do it. Thank goodness this is a free team, because we'll be lucky to win 35 games.
7/1/2010 3:41 PM
Mailman 96/97 can play SF/PF/C , high volume high eFG% scorer, boards well, DEF 90 and some dimes
Troy Murphy 08/09 can play SF/PF, 3's with high eFG%, great rebounding and DEF 96
Marcus Camby 08/09 can play PF/C, good eFG%, great rebounding and DEF 96, adds blocks
Emeka Okafor 06/07 can play PF/C, good eFG% and rebounding, DEF 92, adds blocks
Brandon Roy 08/09 can play only SG, -----Hopes he keeps the team together, does everything well but nothing great, DEF 61
Jose Calderon 07/08 can play PG, great eFG% and Ast%, a true pure PG, lacks Def 55
J.R. Smith 07/08 ---- the potent scorer from the bench

My frontcourt is my jewel. Since there are only a handfull high scoring PG my weakest point will be at the defending side of the SG spot. At least Camby and Emeka will block some...

I'm really confused by the emphasis on defense in this league when I thought there was a consensus that defense doesn't seem to do anything. . . is it just that you have the money to burn in this league?

(And yes, I know that I should have burned more money, so I'm not the one to talk. I'm short on usage and high on fouls.)
