take note i beat a 1 as a 16 seed at my div 2 school, i disagree that that should be able to happen, mabye the real issue isnt that worse seeds are beating higher seeds, but the fact could be that the seeding is so screwed up, combined with the random generator giving good matchups for the lower level team. im convinced that the only reason i was about to win is because i matched up well with the team i played against.. none of the other 1s i would have.

they say in real life, that lower seeds have to make up a extra 5-10 points over the power schools.

though i think the bigger issue is the seeding. why is a team that could beat a 1 seed a 16 seed?

throw out a RPI for a minute.. how about instead of scheduling your games, the computer does a random generation of schedules based on talent, then you throw out the RPi, you get in the tournament based on wins and losses, or conf title. but it would fix the seeding issue alot i think.

I liked everything until the last paragraph. Being able to schedule your own non-conference games is a bright spot for most people

Excellent point on seeding. Honestly, I think a big part of it is that some coaches simply know how to play the rpi game a lot better than others. And part of it is that there are just some inherent flaws with the seeding process (for example, teams with good records that haven't beaten anyone getting overseeded).

I just had a game as a 1 seed where we were only rated 20 pts better than the 16. (The 16 seed was 3/16 in the region by overall rating.) We won the game, but needless to say I wasn't thrilled with that 1 vs. 16 draw.

Back in the peach basket days of HD, we didn't get to schedule our own non-conference games.  Man, talk about a crap shoot.  You might get stuck with 10 really bad Sims that were nothing but RPI and SOS killers.  Allowing US to schedule our non-conference games was a HUGE plus to the game.  Like Dalt said, some people know how to schedule better than others, just like some people can gameplan better than others.  I understand your point but I think it would be a huge mistake to take that option away from us.
