But more and more owners may be able to afford that 3m player, increasing the supply of dollars and therefore decreasing the value of a dollar.

You're assuming an open market where all teams with 3m are inquiring.   In my experience, that's about as far from reality as you can get.   When an owner says "Player X is available", he's dealing him before the next cycle if he gets an offer.

You're right.  It completely depends on an open market.  In most worlds you don't get this, so it's important to set 'regulations'.

However, in a good world with experienced owners, it works.

I obviously disagree.   Some owners, good or bad, are anxious to make a deal.  So they don't wait for the best offer, they take the first acceptable offer.   You're kidding yourself if you think you're in worlds where that doesn't happen.

I'm in one.  Players that are sold are put up for bid.

deanod, I think the problem there is more that someone would give you money for a jerkoff prospect & that the world wouldn't veto such a deal based on it being unbalanced.

This is acutally where the problem starts.  One man's jerkoff prospect is the next guy's back-up catcher.   But that 10k in cash I get gives me the ability to sig the number 2 pick in the draft.    Suddenly I turned my jerkoff prospect into the a future HOFer.    The sad part is there is about 50 ways to get that 10k.  But the quickest, easiest is to sell my jerkoff prospect(that will become your back-up C).
I can just wait until the end of the season when salaries are 0 dollars to sign that #2 pick as long as I have the prospect dollars.

I just don't see the difference between trading a player whose contract is worth more than the players value compared to attaching cash to a deal.

For example this trade is  acceptable to many owners.

Team A

72 overall 2nd basemen who is a AAA quality player but plays at the major league level...Salary 1 million dollars
Another player league minimum
Another player league minimum

Trades to team B.

Player league minimum
Player league minimum
Player league minimum

This trade is deemed unacceptable.

Team A

3 players plus 1 million in cash

Team B

3 players.

I see almost no one complain about the first trade, and they justify it by saying a owner is just trying to get rid of a bad contract so he needs to take on less talent to make up for the bad contract.

No you can't.  Draftees are always $7650.

And it's best to sign your prospects sooner to get the extra ratings bumps, anyhow.

This is not true; Their salary is pro-rated, just like everyone else's.  If you wait until the playoffs, it doesn't cost any player salary to sign them.

EDIT: It seems I may be wrong about this... WORLD GD Bryant goes to the postseason in a couple of days and I am at my salary limit... I'm going to see if I can sign a couple of guys then.  I believe that I have in the past, but I am not certain.

I don't think so.

In fact, I suggest you check your RL team and let me know your picks' salaries.

The roster management page displays their annual salary, but if you click on a player's profile you will see that his cost to the franchise has been pro-rated.
