What Happened?
Finished 20-9. Team was very good. Made it to the Conference Championship Game for the first time and ended up losing by 10. Had a 97 RPI during selection timeframe (lowest into the PIT was 90). RPI 100, SOS 220. Conference was 22nd in RPI, so I needed to schedule hardcore in non-conference, but didn't. It'll be better next season, although my team will be worse. Prestige stayed at C-.
What's Good?
Expect at least winning records from now on. Overall record at UCSB is even at 71-71.
Conference Player of the Year- Michael Hammond (1T in PPG, 5th RPG, 10th SPG, 3rd 3PT%, 2nd FT%)
Defensive Player of the Year- Marvin Oliver (1T in PPG, 7th APG, 1st SPG, 1st 3PT%, 3rd MPG)
Others- McNany 1(0th RPG, 8th FG%), Kearns 1st APG, Clark 9th BPG
Team Leaders- 25th FG%. 6th 3PT%, 3rd 3PT% Against, 3rd 3PT% margin, 3rd FT% margin
What's Bad?
SOS actually got worse, from 151 to 220. The conference fell off dramatically. If I could've wrestled one more victory I could've been in the PI, or a few more shots and I could have made the NT. Close, but no cigar.
I lose all of my 3 point shooting with Hammond, Fenley, and Oliver leaving. Didn't think about it, hopefully I can snatch a guy that can play right away to avoid -2 or -3 defenses next season.
Lessons Learned?
There's 4 other humans, but 3 are in the other side of the conference. I have to schedule much better even if it means a few more losses in able to get a decent SOS.
Dumping the zone, practicing only M2M. This may have some growing pains, but there's very few (like 2) teams that can compete year in-year out with zone in any world. Hopefully it's a smooth transition, but my pool of recruits will be getting smaller as I need to emphasize defense.
Overall?
It's rough coming close, but not breaking through to the postseason. I put in a job application to Mississippi (same C- prestige, longshot) and was quickly denied. I looked around at a few stepbackwards schools but it's not worth it. May look again though.
I'll be lowerclassman heavy so I'm not expecting much for next season. Hopefully it's not a huge waste of a season.
