ODAC Season 53 Preview (Recruiting Review Only)
East Mennonite (#22 WIS)
Recruiting Review
Coach catjuggler seemed to take a different approach this year and went out and got three very high athleticism guys. The first is a Hershey, PA product by the name of
Dewitt Willis. Dewitt could end up being a stud scorer, with the possibility of both his LP and Per getting over 70. The only problem will be his inability to bounce a basketball. Their next recruit is
David Warren, another G/F, from North Carolina. There is a chance that he could play PF down the road if his REB gets high enough. Their final recruit, Mike Nugent, is profiled below.

Even though he can't pass the ball, Nugent will be a stud. He will be very very athletic and his defense might reach 100, which will make EMU's zone that much more formidable. Nugent will also be able to score; With such high athleticism and a great LP/Per combination he could really pour it in. Overall, all three guys are going to be formidable players, but my biggest concern is that all of these guys basically play the same position. None of these guys will reach 45 speed, so I don't see them playing SG. Like I wrote earlier, I could see Willis playing PF eventually, but for the most part all of these guys play SF.
Guilford (#23 WIS)
Recruiting Review
After losing out on Roanoke-bound guard Steve Carr, Guilford picked up guard Jeffrey Young, profiled below.
Star of the Class:
Jeffrey Young

After initially thinking he was going to take a walk-on, mets must be happy to bring in Young. He will be a very fast guard who will play good defense, but also be able to shoot and be a good passer. Young will be a very good guard for Guilford who will probably be in the rotation this year.
Bridgewater
Recruiting Review
Their first recruit is
Sam Decker, a guard from West Virginia. He projects out as a solid combo guard, he won't blow anyone away, but he will be very solid. The next recruit is forward from Arizona,
Derrick Fried. Fried is very athletic and projects out to be a very good defensive player. He will probably end up playing SF. Their third recruit is a high potential guard from Wailuku, Hawaii.
Raymond Horrell doesn't look great now, but with high potential in almost every area (except defense and rebounding) and a high work ethic, the not-so-high flyin' Hawaiian might be putting up some big numbers in the ODAC soon. Their final recruit is James Lackey, profiled below.
Star of the Class:
James Lackey
A rare local guy Bridgewater, the 6'11" Center will be a traditional ODAC Center, not very fast but athletic and can really rebound. The Arlington, VA product should find himself in the rotation sooner rather than later and will be a much needed boost Bridgewater, who only have one rebounder better than 60 reb and he will be graduating this year.
Randolph-Macon (#3 TK, #2 WIS)
Recruiting Review-They did not recruit anybody
Roanoke (#6 TK, #7 WIS)
Recruiting Review
We brought in two guys to fill both our open 'ships, but it did take some battling. Our first recruit is
Joel Myers, a solid point guard from West Virginia. With low perimeter potential, he won't be lighting it up from deep any time soon, but with high potential in speed and LP (passing and def too) he should be good at getting into the lane and finishing. I'm pretty excited to see what Myers can do because he'll be the first ever LP dominated guard I've ever had and if he's good, he won't be the last. Our second recruit is Steve Carr, profiled below.
Star of the Class:

It took until the second day of signings to finally reel him in, but Carr made the right choice to come to Roanoke instead of Guilford. Carr will never be very fast, but other than that it is hard to find a weakness in this guy's game. He will be a complete guard on both ends; he'll be able to shoot, handle, and pass along with being a good defender. He should see about 13-15 minutes this year as the back-up SG.
Washington and Lee
Recruiting Review-They signed nobody.

Recruiting Review
In his first ever class at W&J, the ODAC's newest coach pulled in what looks like a class that will set him up well. Clearly headpirate is a coach with a very bright HD future. WIth only 3 returning players, headpirate needed some non-freshman and he brought in three of them. The first transfer is C
Eric Colby, who comes in with only one year of eligibility. Colby will be the best big man on W&J and should put up some decent stats and hopefully help them win a few games. The next transfer is another big guy, PF
Jim Whitby. Whitby transfered from JUCO after only one season and has 3 years of eligibility remaining. With 70 LP, he should be an effective scorer. The final transfer is a guard by the name of
Jim Canfield. Canfield isn't your prototypical guard though; Canfield is not that fast or athletic, but he is a strong defensive presence and can really score inside. He should be very solid the next 3 seasons for W&J. HP also brought in 4 freshman (as well as 2 walkons), the first being guard
Gregory Comfort. Comfort is a product Saint Albans, WV, a school that has produced some of the best players in this area the past couple seasons (see Roanoke RS Senior
Lynn Franqui and Chowan Senior
Michael Strain, if there are anymore out there, and I know there are because I almost decided to do a whole recruiting class of 3 guys from Saint Albans, post them here, these are the two guys I know off the top of my head). Comfort should be a pretty good for W&J throughout his career and project to be a pretty good combo guard. Their next guard, who almost got star of the class, is
Raymond Monson (there has been an influx of Raymonds into the ODAC this year). Monson will be a very fast athletic guard who will be able to shoot and take it to the hoop. He's a recruit that probably could have gone to an upper-level team and it is very impressive that W&J was able to land him. Their third freshman is another PA product (like Monson) is B
randon Velasco, who will be redshirting this year. Velasco will be an ultra-athletic rebounder who will inevitably be crashing the boards with star of the class Paul Sims, the star of the class, profiled below.
Star of the Class:
Paul Sims
Sims is almost the same player as Velasco, but with slightly high Defense and Shot Blocking. Both will be very athletic (probably around 75 ath each) with very high rebounding (80+ each). In 4 seasons, these two guys might be the two best rebounders in the ODAC, which means HP did a ridiculously good job recruiting. It will be very exciting to see how Sims (and Velasco) will turn out.
Virginia Wesleyan
Recruiting Review
After last year's 33-2 season udm_mike had 6 players graduate. To keep VWC competitive mike had to bring in a great class and did he ever. The all-North Carolina class looks very impressive. Their first recruit is
Stevie Stuart from Monroe, NC. Stuart obviously was not one of the focal points of this class, but he will be able to contribute down the line at PF when his ath, spd, and reb all fulfill their high potentials. Their second recruit is
Isaac Brooks, who might end up playing both SF and PF. He won't be able to score much, but he'll be fast (high potential) and athletic (low potential) and he will have 95+ stamina, which is always a huge bonus for the press. Their next recruit is SF
Richard Wickham, who will probably be a good SF. He doesn't have killer stamina, but he does have high potential in ATH, REB, PER, and BH which always makes for a good player. Recruit #4 is
Michael Thompson, who will be a good SG with high potential in SPD, DEF, PER, BH and the all-important stamina. Recruit #5,
Robert Buser, is very interesting. Buser won't be a great shooter (33 low), but he should be able to score very effectively because of his high potential in LP, SPD, BH, and P. He also has high potential in stamina, which is already at 79, which means he will definitely get to 99. Their last recruit is Scott Dennis, profiled below.
Star of the Class:
Scott Dennis
Dennis was obviously the gem of the region. After I threw about 2k at him, he was snapped up by Greensboro, the best d3 program in the country. Then VWC creeped in and took revenge on Greensboro for inflicting both losses on a season where VWC might have been the best team by throwing piles of money at Dennis. Dennis will probably end up being CPOY and will definitely be the focal point of VWC's offense for the three years following this one. He will score a boatload of points. The picture above says it all.
