I'm sorry to say, but past Curt Brock and Bo Parker your pitching is mediocre...

Well, he's far and away your best SP.    You might want that for the playoffs.

Nonetheless, designate him before ST next season.  Maybe someone claims him as there will be a lot of cap space available.  He's not going to accept a trade to a team with a worse record.

Sometimes, when you take a team, you have to deal with the previous owner's decision.   Make the best of it.

It must be a terrible burden to have a Cy Young caliber pitcher on a playoff bound team.

Oh, the horror!

With respect to the no trade clause, players will generally reject trades to teams with a worse record than the current team.  If it's early in the season (before 27 regular season games played, I believe), then it goes by the prior season's record.
right. you can trade him to a team that ended up better than yours last season.

I'm still not sure why you're so eager to dump this guy.  You may be 6.5 game back, but you've got the 2nd best record in your league.  The guy is having  great season, and should be strong each of the next two seasons.  At any rate, w/ another $19.5 mil season off the books, you'll likely have more people interested next season, however w/ a no trade clause and a solid record, your trade options are going to be limited.

I think your only hope is to start tanking.   Once your record stinks, you'll have more trade options.

I think it's hilarious when owners are so concerned about the future, that they sabotage a playoff season in order to build for potential future playoffs.

which is why I like this story from the walls of Jimmy Johns (and probably somewhere else)

An American investment banker was at the pier of a
small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with
just one fisherman docked.

Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna.
The American complimented the Mexican on the quality
of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.”

The American then asked, “Why didn’t you stay out longer
and catch more fish?”

The Mexican said, “With this I have more than enough to support my family’s needs.”

The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing; and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat: With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the
processor; eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles and eventually New York where you will run your ever-expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 to 20 years.”

“But what then?” asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions?…Then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

It's a problem with HBD.  There are dozens, if not hundreds, of owners in perpetual "rebuild".   They envision the day when they'll field a roster full of 21-24 year olds making the minimum who'll run thru the playoffs right into a WS title.   Along the way, they keep moving the 25 y/o stud for a 21 y/o future stud.   They never get where they're going because you can't add 9 BL players per season via draft/IFA.

Ok Ok i get the point!!   LOL....................i guess I am looking to much in the future but my AAA squad stinks, My AA squad Stinks as well and this CY YOUNG pitcher is the reason i'm left with a 7 million recruiting budget that allows me to get 1 International player and barely being able to sign my 1st round pick.    I will keep Brock who just pitched another gem of a game and take my chances!   I do appreciate all the SLAPS in the face and the advice.  LOL     If anything it seems to fire up Brock and he always pitches good when I try to get rid of the guy.   LOL

Thanks again and good luck to all of you in your leagues.

Minor league team success/failure is by no means an accurate indicator of future success/failure at the major league level.
4/14/2011 1:08 PM
If your minors do suck, you might want to concentrate on winning at the BL level now because you won't be doing it in a few seasons.

This is the way a healthy team should work in my mind:  No matter how good your team is, every season you should be able to sign/draft 1-2 (possibly 3) guys that can develop into true ML players.  Also, every season your ML team is going to lose 2-3 guys that either retire/leave for FA/cost too much etc.  If you've consistently signed the right prospects and promote them as necessary there should never be a lack of "fresh" talent into your team.   That's not even counting the ability to turn one great older (27+) guy into 2 or 3 younger decent guys.  The only problem is this plan takes patience and about 4-5 full seasons before it is running smoothly.

Just raise your payroll so you can sign these other free agents.
4/14/2011 2:06 PM
its already at 122Million!!   LOL.............the 2nd highest is at 109 M i believe.        I really love the guy but 20 million is a bit much!!     If i can somehow win a playoff game or two then I guess it doesnt really matter!!  I'll cash in and get the FREE WHATIF tshirt and call it good and thank Brock for adding to my tshirt collection I guess.   LOL
