If you ditched the helmets, it would take a generation to un-learn the adopted behaviours which come from wearing a helmet. Scores of guys in the current generation would die in the meantime.
This is kind of the same thing football is dealing with. In football, the problem is that players hit with their heads. If you took the helmets off, they'd stop doing it. But one article I read pointed out that taking the helmets off football would change the game and the look of the game in such ways that it would no longer identifiably be football.
This is why I rail against the speed. People who buy into the fastest game on earth thing, fine. But if you want it to be "safe" you can't play it the way it's being played.
Let's be honest here, where this is all going is, HOW MUCH HITTING WILL HAVE TO BE TAKEN OUT OF IT?
