I'm going with Gonzaga over St. Johns and past BYU into the 16. Both St. Johns & BYU lost a starter very late in the season. Both have sort of stumbled lately, Wheras the injuries for the Zags are almost all healed and all the players (and the team as a whole) are playing the best basketball of their season. Even the Zags rotation has improved. Backcourt play has been the bulldogs weakness, and still is, but both positions have improved with bench guys now getting MOST of the minutes. David Stockton is not good at the point. But he's not bad, and he's better than the starter which is why he is entering at the 15:00 minutes remaining each half. Marquis Carter actually will probably start at shooting guard but regardless will get most of the minutes available there. Marquis Carter is JR transfer who took half a season to get used to D1 but he is used to D1.
I won't address the rest of the Zaga team as that is the strength of the team. St. Johns is good. BYU is good. And Gonzaga has a fight on their hands but might just possibly be the best "upset" bet. Oh, 1 more thing. Just like UW last year (and maybe UW this year), the Zags were rated about #12 preseason and did their best to plummet off the charts. Both NW teams appear to have turned it around by conference tournament time.
