Just looked Baldelli up. Never had more than 69 plate appearances in any season as a DH. I don't think he's a particularly good example for you.
No, you didn't look up Baldelli. Look up his medical condition.
But, since I'm sure you won't bother because you "know" what you need to know, let's put it another way. One guy is Carl Crawford. The other guy is David Ortiz. Over the course of 6 months, do you really believe they would feel the same if both only did DH things?
It doesn't matter what his medical condition is. You have no support that he would have been unable to play long-term as a DH because he never did. Who knows how many games he would have been able to play if he had been a full-time DH? He never was, so we'll never know. Even so, his HBD stamina would be like 10, which I think changes the scenario just a bit.
To your second question, I'm sure Crawford would feel better because he's in better shape, but neither would have to sit to be as effective as they otherwise would. Hell, Ortiz only proves my point that someone who isn't in great shape can play, and be effective, for 600-700 PAs at DH.
We both know that I could play someone at 92%, but they won't be nearly as effective as 98%.
