WHAT DOES ALIAS MEAN?

They do if the economy sucks and people can only afford to run 1-3 teams. Not every world is trying to acquire brand new owners due to possible aliases.
Not really.  Good worlds tend to have only a small number of openings, and if the world has a good reputation, it will have no problems filling.  The top worlds usually have a waiting list of people wanting to get in.

We have seen this same story multiple times. Lot of openings then 2 months later almost no openings. In the meantime we see a thread started about how its all WIS fault, and they do nothing about filling these worlds up etc, etc, . You guys are all excited and  it probably comes down to people not joining worlds right now because they are preparing for their fantasy football draft.
I am not blaming WIS for too many openings in current worlds (although I DO believe they dont market the game properly). And I DO agree that good worlds will fill. I'm thankful that the one world I commish is likely only going to need 1 new owner this season.

I DO, however, blame them for exacerbating the problem by opening a new world when we are about to have considerably more open teams than we've ever had before. Their timing is awful.

Both of these are real issues. I've seen a handful of owners cut back on teams for $$ reasons, and WiS doesn't do anything at all to screen owners for possible aliases. I'm not really sure what they could do, but I'd be much more willing to include new owners if I felt more confident that they weren't a known troublemaker with a new name.

If previous new world launches are any indication, they won't actually launch this new, approved world until the openings situation is juch more reasonable.

This is correct.

There was a world folded.  I wish I could remember the name, but it happened...and I'm not talking about the one where everybody had multiple teams.

remember that world where one guy owned all 32 teams? that was shut down after 1-2 seasons if i remember correctly. though i think that was all pre-arranged with WIS.

Just an update: 38 openings in public worlds, 74 openings in private worlds and 8 worlds eligible to rollover in the next 3 days.

I just lookeed at one with over 10 openings..  The same two teams ahve been in the WS the last couple seasons..  Multiple teams have strung together 100+W seasons for almost 10 years..  Why would anyone take one of the **** teams?
