First year coach - with first pick of draft Topic

Hey MikeT, how about taking a little look at Sbanks team before you even mention anything like tanking.  His top 4 OA MLers have an average of 3 pro years!  One has only 2 pro years.  No tanker ever ever promotes an impact player with only 2 pro years.  I quite applaud him for doing that really.

Though the smarter thing to do Id say is to hold 1 or 2 of them back if there is much chance of improving in AAA and signing a few older guys to 1 or 2 year contracts so that those younger guys would have had more development time while you build up your organization.

There's a lot of people with comprehension problems in this thread.

Sbank's team had 2 owners last year due to being abandoned, the team also lost multiple 1st round picks because of them not being protected from the Rule 5 draft in previous seasons

There is no way to predict his draft position next season.. He can "Think" he'll do that bad and end up winning more than he realized he would if he does some changes that HELP the ML team. I took over a team that has not been good for a few seasons.. I did get the #1 pick this season after I barely won kept myself from being kicked out of the world last season. I promoted some ML level prospects and I even signed a Type A FA to help me this season.. Has it paid off yet? No, but when it all boils down to it people can see I was TRYING to get some help on my ML team.

FWIW, he may not even know what tanking is.   But, 3 seasons from now, it's gonna look like it ON HIS PERMANENT RECORD!

And the caps were meant to be funny.
This.

When you have 117 games left and "know" you're getting a top 3 pick, something is wrong.
And this.

Encouraging someone to "look forward" to a top 3 pick next season isn't very conducive to creating good owners.  10 seasons from now he may decide he wants to join one of my worlds.   I'll see 56 wins followed by 53 wins and say "WTF?"     Then he'll point to a thread like this and say "You guys told me...." if he's encouraged to lose games.

That's why I asked how he knew he'd get a top 3 pick next season.   His response told me what I needed to know as a commish.
And, finally, this.

To make it perfectly clear for the 'tards, the OP said "i need help at both positions and will have one of the top three picks next year".  I wanted to know how he knew that with 117 games left in the season.   As I said, he may not know what tanking is.   He may know exactly what it is and plans on doing it because he's read it works.   My point was to let the n00b know that many worlds don't find tanking to be an acceptable practice and it's pretty easy to spot because it's ON YOUR PERMANENT RECORD!(caps for sarcasm because there seems to be a lot of stupid people in this thread).

And, no, greeny, I didn't analyze his team.   I'm not that interested in finding out what he's doing when I can just ask.   I'm sure he has some idea.

He is a brand new owner.  This is his very first season.  He doesnt have an idea of what he is doing.

And everybody says (I think Ive read you say this too) that in your first season dont do anything foolish.  Dont sign any big contracts, dont make ANY trades unless you get multiple veterans that arent in your world advising you that it is a smart trade.

And to be clear, I wasnt intending to jump down your throat MikeT, I just dont think its overly helpful to imply tanking in this situation.

I knew what I was doing.

I did thread research, pouring over strategies. I saw references to tanking, looked it up, and frowned on it. I researched worlds. I talked to longtime players. How do you know he didn't do the same thing I did, and then said "Hey, I got an idea, I'll tank this team so I can win. Because judging from forum users, IT WORKS."

I saw it works. I could've used that strategy. But I didnt. I have higher moral standards than that. But not everyone does.

You also didnt take a dogshlt 35 win abandoned team...

That's no excuse to tank.   I'll repeat this yet again.  I asked how he knew he was getting a top 3 pick next season with 117 games left.   One response could have been "I don't really.   But, right now, I have the third worst record in the world and I'm up against my budget already.   There's not much I can do to make this turd smell better."

Here's my advice.  If the last number listed for the pitchers is their makeup, then Rader  is clearly the better pitcher.  Great splits and 4 pitches.  Campbell really has only two pitches.  Two pitch starters don't perform as well as you would think.

Sojo is clearly the better hitter.  What are his Makeup, Health and Durability?  If all three are nice then he is a heck of a player.  If he has a SS's glove (85+ across) then he is your guy.  I would pick him if he were a 2B, I think.  Might pick him if he's a slick fielding COF, probably not though.  He's got a great bat for a SS.
I'ld say hes something like a .280-.345-.510 guy.  If he can field, is healthy and durable, then he's your guy.  Rader is nice though.

If his Durability was in the 70's...I might pass.

thanks moethedog.....Sojo projected glove is 82 and durability 83...
