Pitcher's parks - Update!!! Topic

I almost always play in pitcher's parks and use 13/12 if it's a NL team with 7 pitchers with SP attributes and 6 short relievers ( 15-30 stamina ) ... For an AL team , I'll carry one extra position player for DH so either way I always have 4 bench players.

This subject seems pretty well papered by now, but I'll go ahead and throw my two cents in...I have played 10 seasons in San Diego and very rarely exceed 1450 innings per year. 15 position players is more than I would carry, but I agree with death, carry at least one trash heap DH type with low durability or some other wart so you have a quality bat for late inning pinch hitting.

Follow up!!

You 'tards convinced me I had enough pitching.    So now I have to decide on my 25th man who will hit.   I'm pretty well balanced.   6 RH, 4 LH and 2 SH on my roster.   What say ye?

The **** would pretty much be restricted to PH duties against RH(NL team).   Hey Jude might get some time at 1B VL and play LF in an emergency.

Since we've already established that you don't actually NEED the position player, take the bat that is more likely to hit that game-winning HR when he pinch hits... go with the ****

Would the fact that I'm in Memphis matter as I think the ability to steal will have some importantance?

Or the fact that I make up words, Don King-style?

Mike,

For whatever it's worth, I think I would be dangling O'Donnell out as trade bait for a nice innings-eating reliever (or whatever).  He's 31, you probably won't resign him longterm after this season, and he's coming off a career year.  He would bring something in return.  I would then go with Morales in his OF position. Morales will hit 35+ taters, which will make up for his .300-.310 OBP.

Better glove, too.

O'Donnell will resign but he's not part of my plans.  As it's my first season in the world, I don't jump into trading very quickly.  I like to get the lay of the land.  Morales is part of the plan but not this year.  I really haven't played in a park like this and I need to see how restrictive a 44 eye is to what I want to do.  Eye is unaffected by park.

For my money, if my backup hitters aren't platooning, legitimate defensive replacements (GG SS Quality fielders, or near that), or my backup C, I want the best bat, preferably with some pop, that I can get.  I'd hope to get the ability to steal a base out of my bench platoon guys or defensive replacements, and would not carry a guy specifically for that.
FWIW, on my Portland team when I had an injury, I brought Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Alex Blanco up to fill my bench.  I could have brought up a number of mediocre fielding SS/3B types or COF types with equally mediocre bats.  I brought him up because of the power (he's obviously not nearly as good of a hitter as Gookie) and he hit me a game-winning HR AND recorded a Save (yes, a Save) in his short time at ML.

I would go with Gookie. 34 contact isn't going to get you much in a place like Memphis, or, at least, it gets me almost nothing in San Diego, and Memphis is not so much better for hitters. Really, a 56 contact guy will still have trouble, but the better eye will help a bit, as will the power. Speed and base running ability are also park independent, and can help a guy leg out infield singles in pitcher's parks, but Osterbrock's speed/Bsr is not elite enough to be much of a factor, particularly with his poor contact skills. If you do not need the defense, go with the better bat.

Here is a guy I had on the roster in San Diego for a while, pretty similar to Gookie:  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Bill Weiland.  You can see what he did in San Diego.

Mike, It sounds like you could benefit from signing up for the HBD Mentor program. Theres a lot of experienced owners willing to guide you through your ups and downs.

Perhaps I will.

My Iowa City club (-2, -2, -2, -2, -2; very similar to Memphis) has run 10 pitchers for years.  And I had 1 of those 10 throw a total of 52 innings over a 2 year period at one point.  And my D isn't great.  The rotation, however, is, and I usually get 1100 innings from my 5 guys.  Still, I think in a pitcher's park, 12 is excessive.  13 would just be wasteful.  I carry 15 position guys, use rest liberally, and therefore am able to get more starts from my starting lineup.
