On the flip side imop the game play has improved and I enjoy playing. I also want to give props to norbert and how he handles complaints pretty classy.

I
agree, Norbert has done a great job defusing the anger that goes on around here over JConte's POS engine.  People need to realize this engine isn't Norbert's fault.

But, I also disagree with the way it has been handled since inception.  Once it was realized that the new engine was the biggest hunk of $hit ever, it should have been pulled and the old engine reinstated until the new engine had been thoroughly tested and retested.  The fact that we are still having to play with it is sad.

Norbert, I appreciate what you are doing and know you're doing all that you can, but you say the update is still so far away.... I'm having a hard time staying excited with the current randomness of the game and the thought of paying for another five or so seasons before the update takes place, well........ Is there anything we can do to get the attention of your bosses to make this more of a priority? I realize this isn't a big revenue generator for them, but i would think this has been a pr nightmare at times.  Basically, is there anything we can do other than try to be patient? The continued drop in the #s isn't a good sign.
There is nothing we can do to speed up the development as that's on my end.  The way the current engine is structured, I can't just tweak numbers and get us where we want to be, so it's almost a rewrite.  Most of the structure can stay in place and a lot of the logic can be fixed with some tweaks, but the guts of how it simulates a scrimmage play has to change.  This takes quite a while to not only gut and replace it, but also test it to make sure we didn't drastically change how players play.  We have less time to develop than the last engine rewrite, but we want to have more testing than what we had last time - which was ultimately what led to the fiasco.  Believe me, if I could get the update out any sooner, I would, but I don't want to put it out until it is ready.

As far as the GD numbers, it is one of the top products here and we are actually moving in a positive direction.  That gets attention.  So even though it is doing well revenue and user-wise, we recognize it isn't the product it can be.

To me, these 2 statements contradict each other.  Sentence one states numbers can't be tweaked to make the engine work, but sentence 2 hints at if there were more testing done then tweaks could've been made to make the engine work.  Right?

It's two different things.  The current engine had an idea of where it wanted to be and it was put out without much testing and it led to a lot of problems.  The new engine has an idea where it wants to be and can't get there with just tweaking the current engine, but we know we want to test it more than we tested the old engine.  Hope that clarifies.

Got it.

Was it really impossible, as JConte has repeatedly told us, to reinstate GD1.0 when GD2.0 flopped.....until they could get it playable?

I don't know the details, but I know some data had changed and I know sometimes it's tough to change things back once they've changed, so I wouldn't count it out that it wasn't possible to just roll back.  I know it's something we can't do now - not to mention that we would want to rewrite it for technical reasons even if nothing changed.

Thank you for the responses Norbert. I really appreciate the way you communicate with the coaches and your honesty.

Checking-in after a trip to Mexico.  Man that country knows how to drink.  It's like a NASCAR pit crew when you buy a 12-pack.  Loading ice around the beer, bagging it, placing it in your car.  Bing bang boom.  They have that sh$t down.  But anyway, I have one chief (maybe two) Norbert question(s):

Q:  Has the GD 2.0 "engine" changed---and is it changing---while people are playing it?  I understand there was an update in April (?) but--- I think---that dealt with "non-engine" type issues (e.g., recruiting options, etc.). When GD rolled out 2.0, wishbone passing was the rage.  Sad, funny and true.  That seemed to phase out but passing was still strong.  It seems lately that you can't go balls deep passing against human teams like you used to.  2.0 is beyond flawed but it just doesn't appear that it is the same product on an on-going basis.

I think everyone wants 2.0 changed but are those changes being implemented and tested on a rolling basis?  I guess I am inartfully asking if everyone is playing the same game week-to week or is it being "tweaked" on a rolling basis.

Norbert

Becoming more and more curious about the question previously posed.  The first week in Heisman, in 6 of the 12 games in the Big East, the losing team was held to under 10 points.  5 of those games were 7 or less.  And 3 shutouts.  Don't recall seeing these types of defensive results before.

INTs seem to be up.  Passing yards down.  And the 4 yards and a cloud of dust seems to be making a come back.  All antedotal?  Maybe.  But it sure seems like changes are being made.

Is GD 2.0 being changed/tweaked on the version that people are playing---and while they are playing it?

To answer the question - No, the engine is not being changed or tweaked at all, unless I specifically say it is in an update.  You can see the list of changes in the Release Notes under the Help menu in GD.  You can go back 365 days and that will include any of the updates that had been made to GD 2.0.

Any perceived differences in the game are probably just the same old random chance results we've all come to love.  If they end up on one side of the ball versus the other, especially if it happens over several games, it will seem like the engine has changed.  But I can guarantee that I don't make any ninja updates to the engine, or the rest of GD for that matter.
