Why is this guy a D3 scorer? Topic

Keep Pritt at point and start Zeier or Viscovsky at SG if you hate him that much. But why force a G into the 3 spot?

Franklin is going to get more time. Duncan is kinda cockblocked by Davin/Pritts' promises. I can cut Zeier/Viscovsky's times but I've been told Zeier is going to be a solid guy by several experienced owners and I need Viscovsky to be less effective before I can cut his time.

In HBD, some guys are always better than their ratings. I'm willing to accept that my formulas aren't always right so I let them play. I think I need to keep giving Carl minutes until he proves he is what I think he is. RIP, Denny Green.

I won't disclose the names of anyone who says anything to me via SM but two users, via SM and TrentonJoe, said Pritts would be scoring machine at the 3. TJ said he'd lead my team in scoring for 3 seasons at either SG/SF.

I'm not discounting what you tell me, I'm just saying I've gotten other opinions.

So many ways to interpret the game. I am just getting back to DIII after more than a decade so I think I am approahing it more the way I approach DI. I wish those coaches would post their replies here so we can all learn from them. Not making jokes, sharing why they think that helps me understand the game better.

Mike, I ran a zone press for a very long time. It's not the easiest to master a combo defense. Personally I would not suggest it for someone who is still learning the game, but if you think you got a grasp on it, by all means, run with it.

I just run zone. Press is when I'm getting my *** kicked in the last 4 minutes.

Franklin got 17 minutes, scored 4 and had 2 turnovers in the first game of increased minutes.

In the interest of fairness, Viscovsky got 28 minutes, scored 10, went 3-12 from the field, had 3 turnovers and 2 steals. Zeier played 24, scored 5, 0-4 from the field, 6 assists, 4 turnovers and a steal. And, starting at SF, Pritts had a pretty good game. 16 pts, 2 boards, 0 turnovers and steal. 6-10 from the field.

What is your distribution set at?
12/28/2016 9:24 AM
Viscovsky, Pritts, Snyder 15
Harris, Davin, Zeier, Franklin 10

FWIW, after CV's bad game and Pritts' good one at SF, I'm giving Franklin the start at SG.

I would recommend changing the distribution to have greater difference between the players, focusing on who you want your scorers to be. I like to use small numbers, starting with the guys I want shooting the least and working my way up. Guys I don't want shooting (most freshman, guys with very poor offensive skills) get a 0. Guys who aren't incompetent but who I also don't want hucking up a ton of shot get a 1. Guys who I want taking shots as they come to them but not being the focal point of my offense get a 2. Guys who I want shooting the ball a decent amount get a 4, and my studs will get 6-8 depending on just how studly they are. This really effectively channels shots where I want them. When everyone is at 15 or 10 as you have it now, it is the same as everyone being at 3 or 2 in my system. There is not a lot of disparity there, so the engine is basically just running everyone equal.

I thought I read somewhere that it was best to leave all your distro's at zero and let them take the least forced shot. Or perhaps that was only in the fastbreak?

That's a different take on suggestions I was given WRT distribution. One user always goes 100 total and another went about 80. As you can see, I'm at 85 with my front 7. The other 4 have 2-3. I'm just short of 100%.

I've largely based it on FG%. The first three have been 45-50% most of the season. Harris, Davin, Zeier have been 35-40%. And Franklin was bumped to 10 yesterday after your suggestions.

As I said yesterday, I believe little fake players eventually play to their ratings but, until last night, Viscovsky was super efficient. He already lost a start. Another 3-12 and he loses distribution points.

You should never set your distro to all 0. That just lets the sim make all the decisions for you. If you think the sim is a better coach than you then go for it.

Mike- My point was that your system doesn't really create any separation between the players on your team as they are all relatively very close. Using much smaller numbers allows for much greater separation. I believe I picked up this tactic from Gillespie from a post he made years ago. I really liked the results I got in terms of dictating who did what on a nightly basis and have stuck with it.
